RECEPTION AREA

 

You arrive in Valadilene on a cold, wet, stormy day.  Look out the front door on the right - you’ll wait for the storm to end, before going outside.  Look at the Notice Board on the back wall, and take the ADVERTISING BROCHURE.  Read through the ADVERTISING BROCHURE to learn some background information about the village, and the Automatons.  Try to pick up your suitcase, which is lying next to the coat stand - you’d like some help to carry it upstairs.  Walk over to the Reception Desk, and click on the bell on the counter to see a close-up of the counter. 

 

Click on the little wooden man with the mallet - you need a key to wind him up, so he will ring the bell.  Pick up RECEPTION BELL KEY from the counter.  Now open your Inventory, select RECEPTION BELL KEY, and use it on the little wooden man.  Now press the red button on the counter, and watch, as the little man rings the bell. 

 

The Hotel Owner arrives.  Talk to him and work through the dialogue options.  Watch the cut scene.  You meet Momo, who is a special little boy.  You learn about the death of Anna Voralberg, who owned the Toy Factory.  And Momo mentions someone called Hans.  The Hotel Owner takes you up to your room. 

 

 

 

 

HOTEL ROOM

 

Walk up to the far side of the bed. 

 

Pick up FAX 1 from the table next to the bed.  Read FAX 1 - your law firm is overseeing the sale of Anna Voralberg’s Toy Factory.  You should let your boss know about Anna’s death.  Open your Inventory, use your mobile phone, and call the Office.  Watch the cut scene.  Your boss thinks that, since there is no heir, there shouldn’t be a problem with the sale of the Toy Factory going through, as planned.  Walk down to the main part of the bedroom. 

 

Go through the door on the left, to leave the room. 

 

 

 

 

HALLWAY

 

Head up to the end of the Hallway, then climb down the stairs to the Reception Area.

 

 

 

 

RECEPTION AREA

 

Talk to the Hotel Owner and work through all the dialogue options with him.  When you ask about the FAX, he gives you FAX 2 that just arrived for you.  Read it, if you like.  Talk to the Hotel Owner again and continue working through the dialogue options with him.  You learn about Hans Voralberg - Anna’s younger brother.  When you’re ready, end the conversation. 

 

Walk down, to the other side of the room.  Click on the table at the back right - the table Momo was sitting at - to see a close-up. 

 

Pick up the SMALL COG WHEEL and the TINY COG WHEEL from the table.  Look at the diagram Momo etched into the table.  Exit the close-up. 

 

Look carefully on the floor next to the table, and pick up MEDIUM COG WHEEL and LARGE COG WHEEL

 

 



Walk down, to the area with the Reception Desk. 

 

It’s stopped raining now, so click on the front door on the right to leave the hotel. 

 

 

 

 

OUTSIDE THE HOTEL

 

Walk down to the village.

STREET

 

Head left along the street, and continue along, until you reach the Notary’s office. 

 

 



Pick up THE VALADILENE GAZETTE from the bench on the left, and read the article about Anna Voralberg.  Exit the close-up.  Click on the front door to get another close-up.

NOTARY

OUTSIDE THE NOTARY

 

There’s a strange automaton contraption in the wall.  This is a clever contraption that authorises access into the Notary.  From your Inventory, place FAX 2 into the automaton’s hand.  Pull the lever in the middle of the automaton to lower it’s head, then pull the lever on the right of the automaton.  Watch the cut scene, as it reads your FAX, and allows you to enter the Notary. 

 

 

 

 

RECEPTION AREA

 

Walk down, past the reception desk, to the other side of the room. 

 

Go through the door on the left, into the Notary’s Office. 

 

 

 

 

NOTARY’S OFFICE

 

Sit down in the chair in front of the desk.  Work through all the dialogue options with the Notary.  He reads a LETTER FROM ANNA TO THE NOTARY, telling you about a missing air to the Toy Factory - Anna’s brother, Hans.  Apparently, everyone thought that Hans was dead.  But he is indeed, very much alive.  So the Toy Factory now belongs to him, and you must gain his permission to continue with the sale of the Toy Factory.  The problem now, is tracking him down.  He’s… somewhere… in Syberia.  When you’re ready, leave the office. 

 

 

 

 

RECEPTION AREA

 

Walk down, so you can see the front door. 

 

Take TELESCOPIC KEY from the coat stand.  That’s all you can do here at the moment, so head through the door on the left to leave the building.

VILLAGE

STREET

 

Head right, and continue along the street, until you get a phone call from Dan, your fiance.  Watch the cut scene - Dan seems more concerned about his own agenda, than about your wellbeing, Kate.  Continue along the street, across the bridge, and up the hill, until you reach the Church Gates.  Valadilene is such a beautiful, picturesque place.

CHURCH

CHURCH GATES

 

If you visited here earlier, the gates were closed.  Now they’re open. 

 

 



Head through the gates, into the church grounds. 

 

 

 

 

GROUNDS

 

As soon as you enter through the gates, you get a phone call from your boss, Mr Marson.  He’s not very happy that you have to prolong your stay here. 

 

Climb up the stairs, and try to open the front door of the church - it’s locked.  Go right, to the side of the church. 

 

Look at the lift - it doesn’t look like that works.  Follow the path up, so you are at the back of the church. 

 

There’s another door here.  Enter through the door, into the Priest’s Room. 

 




PRIEST’S ROOM

 

Walk right, to the other side of the room, so you can see the Altar.  Click on the crucifix on the wall, behind the Altar, to see a close-up. 

 

Notice the scuff marks on the wall, on either side of the crucifix.  Move the crucifix - a hole in the wall is revealed.  Take KEY from the hole in the wall.  Exit the close-up. 

 

Walk over to the chest of drawers on the left.  Click on the lower half of the drawers, to see a close-up. 

 

Try to open the  drawers, but they’re locked.  Insert your KEY into the keyhole at the top right of the drawers to unlock them.  Now open the top drawer, and take the RED PUNCH CARD.  Open the 2nd drawer, and take the PURPLE PUNCH CARD.  Open the 3rd drawer - it doesn’t quite open all the way, and there seems to be something behind the drawer.  Turn the handle on the right side of the drawers to open the drawer fully.  Take the VORALBERG KEY from this drawer, and also take the PRIEST‘S CONFESSION from the back part of the drawer.  Read through the PRIEST’S CONFESSION.  Open the 4th drawer, and take the GREEN PUNCH CARD.  Open the 5th drawer, and take the BLUE PUNCH CARD.  Exit the close-up. 

 

Walk left, to the other side of the room.  Go through the door on the left, so you are back outside. 

 

 

 

 

GROUNDS

 

Head up the path, round to the side of the church. 

 

 


 

Look at the lift.  Click on the lift - it doesn’t work.  Click on the white panel in the wall, next to the lift, to see a close-up. 

 

It looks like the same thing Momo was drawing on the table, back at the hotel.  But there are 4 empty spaces, where there should be cog wheels.  You can use the 4 COG WHEELS from your Inventory.  Place them like so. 

 

 

        -       SMALL COG WHEEL:  Top left  space

        -       LARGE COG WHEEL:  Top right space

        -       MEDIUM COG WHEEL:  Middle space

        -       TINY COG WHEEL:  Bottom space

 

 

Pull the lever on the right side of the panel.  You automatically enter the lift, and ride up to the Bell Tower. 

 

 

 

 

BELL TOWER

 

Walk down, to the other side of the room. 

 

Click on the automaton contraption on the right, to see a close-up. 

 

Look closely at the atomaton’s back, and notice the slot.  Insert any of the COLOURED PUNCH CARDS in here - they each play a different tune.  The important one is the PURPLE PUNCH CARD.  Watch the cut scene while the PURPLE PUNCH CARD is inserted - the statue above the mausoleum lowers his hat. 

 

Walk down to the other side of the room, and then leave the room through the door on the left. 

 

 

 

 

GROUNDS

 

The lift takes you back down to the church grounds.  Walk left, to the front of the church. 

 

Follow the path left. 

 

 



 Head up to the mausoleum. 

 

This is the mausoleum you saw from the Bell Tower window - the statue has lowered his hat.  Click on the hat to see a close-up. 

 

Insert VORALBERG KEY into the slot in the hat, and watch, as the gate to the mausoleum opens.  Enter the mausoleum, into the crypt. 

 

 

 

 

CRYPT

 

Climb down the stairs.  Walk left, to the other side of the crypt. 

 

Click on the bottom middle drawer to see a close-up. 

 

Open the drawer for Hans Voralberg, then click on the drawer again to see the close-up. 

 

There’s a casket here, but it doesn’t contain Hans’s body.  So what the Notary said earlier must be true - Hans is still alive, and he is the heir to the Toy Factory.  Take the PRESS CUTS NEWSPAPER CLIPPING, and take the VALADILENE VOICE CYLINDER from the casket.  Exit the close-up. 

 

Walk right, to the other side of the room, and leave the crypt. 

 

Climb up the stairs, back to the Grounds. 

 

 

 

 

GROUNDS

 

Climb down the stairs of the mausoleum. 

 

Follow the path down, back towards the church. 

 

Head left \ down to the church gate. 

 

 

 

 

CHURCH GATES

 

Go down the path, to the village.

STREET

 

Keep going down the street, until you see a gate on the right. 

 

 



Click on the gate 2 times to see a close-up. 

 

What an usual gate.  Look at the acrobat on the top half of the gate, and insert the TELESCOPIC KEY.  Look at the acrobat on the bottom half of the gate, and turn the key in his back.  Now pull the lever in between both acrobats. 

 

 



The gate opens, allowing you access to the Voralberg estate.  Head up the path, to the fountain.

The Estate is vast, and each path takes you to a different section. 

 

 



Take the lower left path, leading to the factory.

VORALBERG FACTORY - FRONT

GROUNDS

 

Follow the path up to the next screen. 

 

The factory is impressive.  Notice the wheel in front of the factory, on the left.  Continue up the path, to the front door. 

 

Open the door, and enter the factory. 

 

 

 

 

LOBBY

 

Head left, and climb up the metal stairs on the left. 

 

 

 

 

METAL STAIRS

 

At the top of the stairs, open the door, and enter Anna’s office. 

 

 

 

 

ANNA’S OFFICE

 

Explore the office.  Walk right, to the other side of the office. 

 

Click on the desk to see a close-up. 

 

On the desk, pick up the invoices - on the spike at the top left of the desk - and read through them.  Wow, the factory was in serious financial trouble.  Pick up the letter to Hans, and read it.  This is the last letter Anna ever wrote to Hans.  Pick up the train schematic, and look at it.  Exit the close-up.  Click on the bookcase on the right, to see a close-up. 

 

 



Notice the books on the top shelf.  Pull the 2nd book from the right - the shelf below swivel’s round, revealing a musical box. Click on the book on the top shelf again, to find a MUSIC CYLINDER.   Place the VALADILENE VOICE CYLINDER in the base of the music box on the shelf, and watch the story of Hans and Anna.  You learn about Hans’s tragic accident, which he never fully recovered from.  Make sure you have both CYLINDERS, pick up HANS-ANNA MECHANICAL TOY (the top part of the musical box), then exit the close-up. 

 

Walk down to the other side of the room, then leave the office. 

 

 

 

 

METAL STAIRS

 

Climb back down the metal stairs on the right. 

 

 

 

 

LOBBY

 

Walk right to the next screen, so you see all the production lines full of automatons. 

 

 

 

 

PRODUCTION LINE

 

Sadly, the automatons are not activated.  Head up the path on the left of the automatons. 

 

 



Open the door on the left, and enter the Power Room. 

 

 



 

POWER ROOM

 

Walk down to the next screen. 

 

Pull the chain that’s hanging on the machine on the right.  Watch the cut scene, as an automaton rodent is released into the rodent wheel, thus activating the wheel outside the factory. 

 

 



Now pull the lever on the ground, next to the pipe.  Power to the factory has been restored.  Walk down to the other side of the room, then leave the Power Room. 

 

 

 

 

PRODUCTION LINE

 

Go left 2 times, to the Lobby. 

 

 

 

 

LOBBY

 

Head left, past the metal stairs, and on to the next screen.  Continue left again, to the next screen. 

 

 

 

 

DELIVERY AREA

 

Watch the cut  scene, as your mum calls you.  She mentions bumping into her old friend, the Russian opera singer, Franck Malkovich.  Remember that name - it will prove useful later on.  Explore the area if you like, but there’s nothing you can do here at the moment.  When you’re ready, click on the door at the top of the screen, and enter Oscar‘s Workshop. 

 

 



 

OSCAR’S WORKSHOP

 

Click on the wall on the right. 

 

Turn the handle in the middle of the room, and watch the cut scene as an automaton is lowered down onto the bench.  Walk left to the next screen. 

 

Click on the automaton sitting on the bench.  This is Oscar - he was mentioned in Anna’s letter, up in her office.  Work through all the dialogue options with Oscar.  He’s missing his legs, so he gives you OSCAR’S PUNCH CARD, so you can make his legs for him.  Take note that he needs Part XZ2005_B for his legs.  When conversation is over, click on the door to leave the room. 

 

 

 

 

DELIVERY AREA

 

Go right 2 screens, back to the Lobby.

Now that the factory is powered up, click on the front door to leave the factory.

Head up to the structure. 

 

Pull the lever on the centre beam at the back. 

 

 



Watch the cut scene, as the metal claw takes the canister into the factory.  Walk left to leave the structure.

Open the door, and enter the factory.

Click on the conveyor belt. 

 

Click on the automaton forklift truck. 

 

 

 


Watch the cut scene, as the automaton forklift truck picks up the canister, and takes it over to the production line.  When you’re ready, head right 3 times, and return to the lobby. 

 

 

 

 

LOBBY

 

Climb up the metal stairs. 

 

 

 

 

METAL STAIRS

 

Walk left, to the end of the walkway, then climb up the metal stairs on the left, up to the Work Station. 

 

 

 

 

WORK STATION

 

SAVE YOUR GAME HERE.  This is where you can make new legs for Oscar.  Click on the Control Console to see a close up. 

 

Insert OSCAR’S PUNCH CARD into the slot in the bottom middle of the Control Console.  The controls at the bottom left show the skin colour of the legs.  Pull the lever at the bottom left 3 times, to show a light brown colour. 

 

 



Flip the lever at the bottom right - a red light should come on.  This is the only production line that still works.  Pull the lever to the right on the Punch Card Slot.  Watch the cut scene, as Oscar’s legs are made.  Now you just have to collect them, and take them to Oscar.  When you’re ready, climb down the stairs on the right. 

 

 

 

 

METAL STAIRS

 

Walk right, to the end of the walkway, then climb down the metal stairs on the right.  

 

 

 

 

LOBBY

 

Go right, to the Production Line. 

 

 

 

 

PRODUCTION LINE

 

Continue down & right, to the next screen. 

 

Click on WOODEN LEGS at the end of the Production Line, to see a close-up. 

 

Pick up WOODEN LEGS from the end of the Production Line.  Exit the close-up. 

 

Head left, and make your way back to the Lobby. 

 

 

 

 

LOBBY

 

Head left, past the metal stairs, and continue left until you reach the Delivery Area. 

 

 

 

 

DELIVERY AREA

 

Click on the door in the back wall, and enter Oscar’s Workshop. 

 

 

 

 

OSCAR’S WORKSHOP

 

Give WOODEN LEGS to Oscar.  If you used the correct settings up in the Work Station, watch the cut scene as Oscar attaches his new legs, then heads off to the train station.  Otherwise, Load your game and try again.  When you’re ready, click on the door to leave the room. 

 

 

 

 

DELIVERY AREA

 

Head right, and continue right to the Lobby.

Click on the front door to leave the building. 

 

 

 

 

GROUNDS

 

Head down 3 screens, until you are back at the fountain.
