NOTES




As a thief, it’s important for you to be able to get in and out of places undetected.  As soon as you can, go into the Character Menu (the fancy square), and select the Sneak icon to sneak around.  If at any time the game takes you into a Normal walk, make sure to enter Sneak mode again.  

DARK ONE CAVES

You begin your adventures in the dark, gloomy, Dark One Caves.   

 

First thing’s first.  You have to find a way out of here, and figure out where you are.  Look around the room - what an eerie room!  There is a corpse next to your feet - search the corpse to find a DAGGER and some COINS.  Sneak up to centre of the room, and search the corpse to find FLINT.  There is another corpse right next to it, so search it to find some COINS.  Look at altar on the right, and search the altar to find a TORCH.  In your Inventory, use FLINT to light the TORCH.  Now you can see where you are going.  Use door at top-left of the room, and open it - you automatically force it open with your DAGGER.  

 

You find yourself in another cave.  This one has 4 doors (one of which you just came through, and a huge altar in the middle.  Have a look round the room.  There is a rock near lower-right area - look at it to see a Thief mark.  Now sneak down towards the exit.  You might attacked by some Badders - a bat \ spider mutant.  You can either fight them manually (set the game style to Arcade) or if you’re not so good with the battles, you can set the game to fight your battles for you automatically (set the game style to Strategy).  Either way, the Badders are quickly dealt with.  Now sneak down through the exit.  

 

You’re in another cave, with a rope bridge stretching across a deep chasm.  Have a look around the room.  Click on the rope bridge, and Walk The Tightrope.  The tentacled beast below tries to attack you, but luckily, you survive.  Leave this cave by the top-left exit.  


SWAMP

You finally made it out of those gloomy caves!  You’re on the edge of a swamp now, and are greeted by a woman named Katrina.  She tells you that this is the land of Mordavia.  Well, at least you know where you are now.  

  

Look at the archway, and take the DARK ONE SIGN.  Now sneak left to the next screen.  

 

SAVE YOUR GAME HERE, then sneak \ slide down the slippy path.  Look at BONSAI BUSH in the bottom-right corner.  It looks very out of place there.  You can’t do anything else here at the moment, but keep that BONSAI BUSH in mind, for later on.  Sneak left to the next screen.  

 

This place gives you the chills!  Skeletel hands reach up from the swamp, as though wanting to pull you down under.  The Will-O-Wisps are very pretty though.  Continue up to the next screen.  

FOREST

 

You’ve left the swamp behind, and find yourself on the edge of the forest.  The forest is huge, and it’s easy to get lost.  As well as that, it’s dark, and you’re hungry.  

 

Sneak up 5 times, until you reach the top of the forest.  Now sneak right once, and up once.  You’ve reached the Town Gates.  


TOWN

Outside the town gates, take some CORN from the stacks on the right.  Take some COINS from old tree stump on the left.  Continue up through the gates.  

 

A huge boulder sits proud in the centre of the town.  This boulder houses Erana’s Staff, and it’s surrounded by beautiful flowers.  Try to take the STAFF, and hear a voice talking about ‘sacrifice’.  Take some FLOWERS from the boulder.  Sneak up left side of the boulder, towards the buildings.  

 

The Burgomeister greets you.  Or rather, he makes it clear he‘s not fond of strangers!  He’s not very friendly, but don’t let him scare you.  Talk to him and work through all the topics.  Now use Talk Icon on yourself, and Greet Burgomesiter, then Tell About Yourself, then Say Goodbye.  Now enter the Burgomeister’s Office.  

 

Inside the office, have a look around, and take note of the jail cell.  Talk to Burgomeister again and work through all the topics.  When you ask about the Adventurer’s Guild, he gives you the KEY for it.  Now use Talk Icon on yourself and Greet Burgomeister (again) and Tell About Your Adventures.  Finally, Say Goodbye.  Now leave his office.  

 

Enter the General Store.  Olga, the shopkeeper already knows of your arrival.  She seems to know everything that goes on in this town.  Talk to her and work through all the topics.  Notice how she mentions her husband a few times.  Now this is the General Store, thus this is the place to buy supplies.  Use your MONEY POUCH on Olga, and buy TRAIL RATIONS (10 will do for now), GARLICCANDY (get 2 of them), PIE PANOIL, and SHOPPING BAG.  When you’re done, simply Exit the Shopping Window.  Now leave the General Store.  


TOWN - INN

Enter the Inn.  The Innkeeper greets you warmly, and welcomes you to Hotel Mordavia.  You automatically pay for room and board here, and he gives you a KEY to your room.  Talk to Yuri, the Innkeeper, and work through all the topics.  Now use Talk Icon on yourself, and Say Hello, Introduce Yourself, and Tell About How You Got Here.  Look at the 3 townsmen sitting at the back table.  Talk to them and work through all the topics.  Now sit down at the Innkeeper’s table to get a good meal - it was very garlicy!  When meal is over, stand up, and leave the Inn.  


TOWN

Sneak up through arch on the left.  A very imposing Monastery looms over the area, but we‘ll deal with that later.  Igor is busy carving gravestones here.  Talk to him, and work through all the topics.  The Adventurer’s Guild is also here - it’s the building on the left.  Use KEY on the Guild door to enter the building.  


TOWN - ADVENTURER’S GUILD

The Adventurer’s Guild look like it’s been deserted for quite some time.  Look at Logbook on the desk.  Click on the Logbook, and Read Logbook then Sign Logbook.  Look at the bookcase a few times to see all the book on it.  Search the bookcase, and Read Books, then read each of the books.  You get a lot of information about Mordavia from these books, which will help you throughout the game.  Take ROPE AND GRAPNEL from corner of the room.  Now, notice there is a hook in the ceiling.  Use your ROPE AND GRAPNEL on the hook, then click on rope and Climb Rope.  The thief in you notices some strange marks scraped into the ceiling.  It seems to be a hint.  Climb back down the rope and SAVE YOUR GAME HERE.  Click on the desk again, and Search Under Desk.  You find some more scribblings under the desk - the scribblings represent 4 coat hooks and some numbers.  Notice there are some coat hooks next to the entrance on the right.   Use the coat hooks to get a close-up of them.  Each time you click on a skull under the coat hooks, they will rotate.  The clue under the desk tells you to rotate them as so :

 


  -  Click on the 3rd coat hook skull 2 times.
  -  Click on the 2nd coat hook skull 2 times.
  -  Click on the 4th coat hook skull 1 time.
  -  Click on the 1st coat hook skull 2 times. 

 


If you did it correctly, a secret passage above the bookcase should open up.  Now click on the bookcase, Climb Bookshelf, and enter the Thieves Guild.  


TOWN - ADVENTURER’S GUILD - THIEVES GUILD

Look at the huge Thieves Recruitment poster on the wall.  Now click on the poster and Take Guild Card.  This GUILD CARD qualifies you as an official member of the Thieves Guild.  Now look at the double doors on the back wall, and use GUILD CARD on the doors to flip the latch and open the doors.  Look at safe on the back wall - there’s no way to open it since the knob is missing.  Look at the bookcase to read through the thieves books and learn about disarming traps, and thief marks.  

 

Look at both drainage grates.  Search the floor grate to get a SAFE KNOB.  Use SAFE KNOB on the safe in the hidden room behind the double doors.  You’ll see a close-up of the safe, and you have to spell out the correct word.  Note, however, that every second letter is missing from the display.  Don’t worry - just click on the mark between each letter to select one of the missing letters.  For example, click on the mark between ‘A’ and ‘C’, to select ‘B’.  So spell out the name ‘Filch’ (the company that made the safe), and the safe will open.  You’re rewarded with a LOCKPICK and 5 DAGGERS.  Now click the wall below the safe to see some more Thief Marks.  SAVE YOUR GAME HERE.  

 

Look at the large desk, then click on the desk and Search For Traps.   You automatically disarm the trap (only if you read the books in the hidden room here).  Now Pick Lock, and you are rewarded with 3 DAGGERS and a THIEVES TOOLKIT.  You also find the Chief Thief’s Logbook, which you lay down on the desk.  Look at the logbook to read through it, and pay special attention to the poem :

Move barrel under the large Recruitment Poster to reveal another Thieves Trap.  This one has to be disarmed by clicking on each tile until it‘s the correct colour.  Take another look at the poem above, and concentrate on the first letter of each word :

This could be translated into :

So click the tiles accordingly.  When you do this correctly, the wall on the right will open, and the Chief Thief will reveal himself.  Except… he’s somehow been turned into a giant cockroach!  Talk to him and work through all the topics.  Use Talk Icon on yourself and work through all the topics.  

 

SAVE YOUR GAME HERE.  Move both pictures on the right wall to reveal hidden safes.  Click on one of the safes and Disarm Trap.  The idea is to get 3 of the same symbol in a row, any direction.  Click on a symbol to hold it in place.  It’s pretty easy when you see it in action.  When the trap is disarmed, click on the safe again to Crack Safe, and get the DAGGERSMONEYHEALING POTIONS, and POISON CURE POTIONS inside.  Now do the same with the other safe.  

 

That’s all you can do here for now, so leave via the bookshelf on the left - the same way you came in.  


TOWN - ADVENTURER’S GUILD

Your ROPE AND GRAPNEL should still be hanging from the ceiling.  Click ROPE, and Take Rope And Grapnel.  There’s nothing more you can do here for now, so leave the Adventurer’s Guild through door on the right.  Make sure you are still Sneaking.  


TOWN

Outside the Adventurer’s Guild, sneak right to the next screen.  An old man is walking back and forth here.  Talk to him and work through all the topics.  You find out his name is Nikolai, and he’s searching for someone called Anna.  Unfortunately, you haven’t seen Anna, so you can’t help him.  

 

Look at Dr Cranium’s house on the right, and click on the door to activate a Doorbell Puzzle.  You have to repeat the bell sequence.  Don’t worry, if you get it wrong a few times, the game let’s you skip past it.  


TOWN - DR CRANIUM’S HOUSE

You’re in a big hallway inside Dr Cranium’s house.  Open the doors on the left and right for some amusing fun.  When you open door on the right, you get Antwerped (hee hee).  But what IS that strange blue creature that attacked you?  Click on T.R.A.P. machine in middle of the room.  It will ask you a series of questions to help you identify it.  Answer like so.

The T.R.A.P. machine identifies the creature as an Antwerp, and tells you to feed it AVACADO.  Now where are you going to get AVACADO from?  In your Inventory, look at your RATIONS to discover they are avocado and garlic sandwiches.  Bait the T.R.A.P. machine with a RATION, then open door on the right again, to release a bunch of baby Antwerps.  Wait a few seconds, and one will be lured into the machine.  

 

You’ll also want to identify another creature - the creature that your DARK ONE SIGN represents, which is also the creature above the Monastery door.  Click on the T.R.A.P. machine again to begin the Question Process, and answer like so.

So your DARK ONE sign is a Hexapod, and it likes to eat garlic.  Good to remember that!  

 

Now open door on left again, and the baby Antwerp automatically enters.  You have to guide the Antwerp to the key.  Rotate the maze, avoiding the holes, until it reaches the KEY, then guide it to the Exit.  

 

When you have the KEY, click on door on the back wall, and Unlock Door.  However, before you can actually unlock the door, you have to recreate the keyhole.  Move the puzzle squares around to recreate the keyhole.  Just click on a square, then click where you want it to go.  When you have the keyhole intact, click on the Inventory chest, and use KEY in the keyhole.  

 

Inside the lab, talk to Dr Cranium and work through all the topics.   Dr Cranium is willing to give you a HEALING POTION, however, he can’t remember the formula.  You must tell him what the formula is.  

 

Simply give Dr Craniium the 5-symbol code.  Go through the same process to get POISON CURE POTION.  Also make sure you ask for some EMPTY FLASKS (10 should be enough).  Continue working through all the topics, until you’ve asked about everything.  

 

When conversation is over, leave the lab, and leave the house.  


TOWN

Back outside, talk to the old man again, and work through all the topics to find out more about him and Anna.  When conversation is over, sneak down to the next screen.  You’re back at the boulder with Erana’s Staff.  Sneak down through the town gates.  


FOREST

SAVE YOUR GAME HERE.  Sneak down once more, so you can see the town gates in the distance.  Grab some ROCKS from the ground (take a few), and take some FLOWERS from the tree.  Now sneak left twice and up once, to the Castle Gates.  

 

Talk to Boris, the Gate Keeper, and work through all the topics.  Wait a minute… his name is Boris Stovich?  Is he related to the shopkeeper, Olga Stovich, by any chance?  

 

Sneak down once, right twice, and up twice, so you are back in Mordavia Town.  


TOWN

Return to the General Store, and enter it.  Talk to Olga and ask about her Husband.  Now use Talk Icon on yourself, and Tell About Gate Keeper.  In case you haven’t guessed, Boris is her husband.  Wouldn’t it be nice if you could get the two of them talking again?  Talk to her again and ask about Husband again.  She gives you a message to give to Boris.  When you’re ready, leave the shop.  

 

Sneak down twice, so you are outside the town.  


FOREST

SAVE YOUR GAME HERE.  Sneak down again, then sneak left twice, then up to Boris the Gate Keeper.  

 

Talk to Boris and ask about his Wife.  Now use Talk Icon on yourself, and Talk About Olga.  Apparently, Boris left Olga a long time ago, because he was tired of her complaining about him all the time.  Let’s go back and tell her why he left.  

 

Sneak down, right twice, and up twice, so you are back in the town.  


TOWN

Go to the General Store again.  Talk to her and ask about Husband.  Now use Talk Icon on yourself, and Talk About Boris.  She retaliates by saying he is lazy and he spent all his time at the Inn.  It’s hard work getting these two to talk to each other again.  

 

Leave the shop, and sneak down twice, so you are outside the Town Gates.  


FOREST

Sneak down once, left twice, and up to the Castle Gates.  Talk to Boris and ask about Wife.  Now use Talk Icon on yourself and Talk About Olga.  He explains that he wasn’t lazy - he was just bored in the shop, because there were never any customers.  

 

Sneak down once, right twice, and up twice, so you are in the town.  


TOWN

Go to the General Store.  Talk to Olga and ask about Husband.  Now use Talk Icon on yourself and Talk About Boris.  Her side of the story is that she only wanted the shop to be nice and clean, so that any customers that DID come in, would want to buy stuff.  Besides, this is HIS family business!  

 

Leave the shop and sneak down twice, so you are outside the Town Gates.  


FOREST

Sneak down again.  Now sneak left twice, and up to the Castle Gates.  Talk to Boris and ask about his Wife.  Now use Talk Icon on yourself, and Talk About Olga.  Boris admits that there is a lot of work involved in running a shop.  On the other hand, there’s no customers, and nothing to sell.  

 

You know the score.  Sneak down once, right twice, and up twice, so you are back in the town.  


TOWN

Sneak up to the General Store and enter.  Talk to Olga and ask about her husband.  Now use Talk Icon on yourself and Talk About Boris.  Olga talks about how popular her avocado and garlic sandwiches are.  Maybe Boris would be interested to know that?  Leave the shop.  

 

Sneak down twice to the Town Gates.  


FOREST

Sneak down again, then sneak left twice, and up to the Castle Gates.  Talk to Boris and ask about Wife again.  Now use Talk Icon on yourself, and Talk About Olga.  Boris finally realises how much he misses Olga.  He decides to go and visit her, the first chance he gets.  

 

Sneak down once, right twice, and up twice to the Town Gates.  


TOWN

Return to the General Store.  Talk to Olga and as about Husband.  She tells you that Boris came to visit her, and it was so good to see him again.  Awww, playing Matchmaker was hard work, but it was worth it.  You finally managed to re-unite Boris & Olga.  Nice work!  Leave the shop again.  

 

Check the time - when the Burgomeister’s closes his window, that means it’s evening.  Knock on door of the Inn, and enter. 


TOWN - INN

Talk to the Innkeeper again, and work through all the topics.  Talk to the 3 men at the back table and work through all the topics (if they‘re not here yet, come back again later).  Now sit down at the table, to get a good meal.  

 

After the meal, stand up, and climb up the stairs.  Click on door at top of the stairs to enter your room.  

 

In your room, click on candle next to the bed to light it.  Now click on the bed, and Rest For 60 Minutes (don’t Sleep Until Morning yet).  Repeat this until ’You Are Getting Tired’.  It’s midnight.  Get up and leave your room - you have a feeling you’re being watched.  Look at the Domovai perched above the fireplace on the left.  Talk to him and work through all the topics.  He seems rather troubled.  Anyway, there’s nothing you can do for him right now, so return to your room.   

 

In your room, open your window, and use ROPE AND GRAPNEL to climb down to the street below.  

 


TOWN

Sneak right to the next screen, where you saw Nikolai, the old man.  Now the building on the left is Nikolai’s house.  Click on the upstairs window to climb in.  


TOWN - NIKOLAI’S HOUSE

Make sure you are Sneaking.  Now use OIL on both doors of the wardrobe to oil the hinges.  Open the wardrobe, and search through both sides, to find some goodies.  Sneak downstairs and play the music box on cabinet next to the stairs - poor old Nikolai!  Now look at the roll-top desk over near the door (directly under the upper-floor).  Open the roll-top desk then search it to find a HEALING POTION and an old diary.  There’s another desk, facing the door.  Take UGLY MUG from the desk and place it on the floor.  Now search the desk twice to find some goodies.  Sneak back upstairs and climb back out through the window.  


TOWN

Sneak back to the area with the Burgomeister’s office, General Store, and the Inn, and SAVE YOUR GAME HERE.  Use THIEVES TOOLKIT on the Burgomeister’s window to pick the lock.  Keep doing this a few times.  You won’t manage to break in yet, since your Lock Picking skills are not very good, but it’s good practice.  But make sure the Burgomesiter doesn’t catch you.  

 

When you’ve had enough of Lock Picking for one night, click on window above the Inn, to climb up to your room.  


TOWN - INN

Well, you’ve had a busy night.  Now click on your bed, and Sleep Until Morning.  

 

The next morning, leave your room, climb down the stairs, and sit at the table to get some breakfast.  Talk to the Innkeeper and work through all the topics.  When you’re ready, leave the Inn.  

 

Talk to the Burgomeister and work through all the topics.  He still doesn’t trust you.  

 

Sneak up through arch on the left.  Talk to Igor and work through all the topics.  When conversation is over, enter the Adventurer’s Guild.  


TOWN - ADVENTURER’S GUILD

Click on bookcase, and Climb Bookshelf, so you’re in the Thieves Guild.  


TOWN - ADVENTURER’S GUILD - THIEVES GUILD

Talk to the Chief Thief and work through all the topics.  Use Talk Icon on yourself and Tell About Old Man’s House then Offer To Help Chief.  He tasks you with getting into the basement of the Monastery and retrieving a small statue for him.  You can’t do anything else here for the moment, so leave the Thieves Guild via the bookshelf.  


TOWN - ADVENTURER’S GUILD

Leave the Adventurer’s Guild.   


TOWN

Back outside the Adventurer’s Guild, there’s also that rather imposing Monastery here.  SAVE YOUR GAME HERE.  Look at the upper window, then climb in the Monastery through the upper window.  It will take you a few attempts to climb the wall, but you’ll get there.  


TOWN - MONASTERY

Inside the Monastery, look at Domovai on cabinet on the left - it’s completely dehydrated!  Use THIEVES TOOLKIT on the cabinet to pick the lock and get a HEALING POTION.  Now there is a small alcove high above the main door.  Look at the alcove then climb up to the alcove - you are rewarded with the legendary BLACK BIRD STATUE.  

 

Now look at fireplace on the right, and note the hexapod above the fireplace.  Give some GARLIC to the hexapod, then move log-holder post on the right, and enter the basement.  

 

Look around the basement - this place really makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up!  SAVE YOUR GAME HERE.  Notice the blood dripping from the huge cask.  Taste the blood and watch the vision of the Dark One rising.  Yikes!  The blood has changed to a scroll, so take the BLOOD RITUAL.  Now look at book and sign on altar on the left, but DON’T touch them.  Do note, however, that the Dark One sign spells out the name ‘Avoozl’.  There is a recessed alcove in middle of the room, that houses a small statue.  Look at the statue - this matches the one that the Chief Thief told you about.  Now whatever you do, DON’T touch it.  Use the SHOPPING BAG you got from the general store to pick it up.  SAVE YOUR GAME HERE.  Now look at the desk at bottom of the screen.  Click on the desk and Look For Traps then disarm the traps.  The desk opens.  Search through the desk and find an old diary.  Read through the diary to get information about the Dark One Rituals and where to find them.  

 

Now there’s nothing else you can do here for the moment, so sneak back upstairs, then climb back up the window again to leave the Monastery.  


TOWN

Enter Adventurer’s Guild on the left.  


TOWN - ADVENTURER’S GUILD

Click on bookcase, and Climb Bookshelf, so you are back in the Thieves Guild.  


TOWN - ADVENTURER’S GUILD - THIEVES GUILD

SAVE YOUR GAME HERE.  Give BUG STATUE to the Chief Thief, and watch as he is transformed back to his human form.  Good work!  Now talk to him and work through all the topics.  Use Talk Icon on yourself and work through all the topics.  Now leave the Thieves Guild via the bookcase.  


TOWN - ADVENTURER’S GUILD

Leave the Adventurer’s Guild.  


TOWN

Sneak right to the next screen.  The old man is still here, still looking for his beloved wife Anna.  Poor man!  Talk to him and work through the topics.  Now enter Dr Cranium’s house on the right.  


TOWN - DR CRANIUM’S HOUSE

Use door on the back wall to enter his lab.  Dr Cranium is a very excitable man!  Talk to him, and work through all the topics.  Make sure you get a HEALING POTIONPOISON CURE POTION and an EMPTY FLASK from him.  When you’re ready, leave the lab and leave the house.  


TOWN

 

Sneak down twice, so you are outside the Town Gates, and SAVE YOUR GAME HERE.  


FOREST

Let’s explore more of Mordavia, outside the town.  

 

From outside the Town Gates, go  down twice.  There are some trees here.  Now as a thief, you already know how to climb.  But you still need to practice to improve your Climbing Skills.  So click on the tree to climb it.  Repeat this a few times.  Most trees in the forest will give you good climbing experience.  

 

Sneak down twice more, so you are at the bottom.  Now sneak left 3 times, and down once.  

RUSALKA

What a beautiful lake.  The Rusalka is also here.  Whatever you do, DON’T enter the lake.  Talk to Rusalka and work through all the topics.  Now use Talk Icon on yourself and work through all the topics.  Be kind to her, and give her some FLOWERS.  Now talk to her again, and work through all the topics again to get some more information from her.  When conversation is over, it’s time to leave her.  Sneak up one screen.  


FOREST

Sneak right 3 times, then up to the top, so you are back in the town.  


TOWN

Sneak up to the area with Burgomeister’s office, the General Store, and the Inn.  Now check the time - when Burgomeister shuts his window, that means it’s evening.  Knock on the Inn door to enter.  


TOWN - INN

Sit down at the table to get some supper.  After supper, sneak up to your room.  

 

Climb out your room through the window, so you are back down on the streets.  


TOWN

SAVE YOUR GAME HERE.  Use THIEVES TOOLKIT on the Burgomeister window to pick the lock.  You probably won’t get in yet, but you’re getting valuable practice.  Make sure not to stay here too long, or the Burgomeister will catch you.  When you’ve had enough of Lock Picking, click on window above the Inn to climb back up to your room.  


TOWN - INN

Click on your bed, and Sleep Until Morning.  

 

Next morning, sneak down, and sit at the table to have some breakfast.  After breakfast, leave the Inn.  


TOWN

Let’s do some more exploring.  Sneak down twice, so you are outside the Town Gates.  


FOREST

SAVE YOUR GAME HERE.  Sneak down as far as you can, sneak left once, then down as far as you can again, so you are back at the swamp.
