PART 3:  UNDER MONKEY ISLAND

BEACH

 

You land on the beach of Monkey Island.  Herman Toothrot tries to talk to you, but you have your head in the sand… literally!  When Herman leaves, you’re able to stand up.  Read the piece of paper pinned to the tree - it’s a Notice Of Public Meeting.  What… a Public Meeting on a desert island?  How strange!  Pick up BANANA from the sand.  Look at the rowboat in the water.  Now walk up into the jungle. 

 

 

 

 

JUNGLE

 

You see an overhead view of the island now.  Walk up to the next section of the jungle. 

 

This section consists mainly of a large volcano and a small beach.  Look for the fort near the centre of the volcano, and travel there. 

 

 

 

 

FORT

 

Look at the cannon, and push the cannon.  Pick up CANNON BALL and pick up GUNPOWDER that fell from the cannon.  Pick up ROPE that’s on the ground nearby.  Pick up SPYGLASS from the ground.  Work through a conversation with Herman.  When conversation is over, return to the jungle. 

 

 

 

 

JUNGLE

 

Go to the small beach on the left. 

 

 

 

 

SMALL BEACH

 

Pick up NOTE from the sand, and read it.  You start to learn about a dispute between the native cannibals, and Ghost Pirate LeChuck.  It’s a very amusing dispute!  Herman appears, and talks to you again - work through all the dialogue with him.  Walk up into the jungle. 

 

 

 

 

JUNGLE

 

Walk right, to the section with 3 paths leading from it. 

 

Go to the river fork. 

 

 

 

 

RIVER FORK

 

Boy, it’s hot here!  Pick up NOTEWORTHY ROCK, which is lying on top of another NOTE.  You automatically read the NOTE - it’s about the dispute between the native cannibals and Ghost Pirate LeChuck.  Now in your Inventory, look at NOTEWORTHY ROCK to learn that it’s a piece of flint.  Place some GUNPOWDER on the dam.  In your Inventory, combine NOTEWORTHY ROCK (flint) with the CANNON BALL to create a spark.  You successfully blow up the dam, and the river flows freely, taking you back to the jungle. 

 

 

 

 

JUNGLE

 

Go to the pond at end of the river. 

 

 

 

 

POND

 

It’s quite a gruesome sight.  Pick up NOTE from the ground.  Work through a conversation with Herman.  When conversation is over, look at the unhealthy-looking man, and pick up the ROPE he used to hang himself with.  There’s nothing else you can do here, so head back down to the jungle. 

 

 

 

 

JUNGLE

 

Go back to the river fork (not the river itself). 

 

 

 

 

RIVER FORK

 

Climb up the footholds in the mountain at the back. 

 

Pick up the NOTE, and read the NOTE.  So Herman Toothrot doesn’t want his primitive art to be moved?  Well, you know what you have to do now, don’t you?  Push the primitive art, so the angle is changed.  Now climb up the footholds in the mountain at the back. 

 

You’re at the top of the mountain now, and you can see the Sea Monkey far in the distance.  Look at the rock that’s perched on the edge of the mountain.  Work through another conversation with Herman.  After Herman leaves, push the rock that’s balanced on the edge of the mountain, and watch the effect it has.  Climb down path on the left. 

 

Pick up another NOTE from the ground, and read it.  Push the primitive art again, then climb up footholds on mountain at the back. 

 

Pick up rock from the big pile of rocks, and you automatically place it at edge of the mountain.  Now push the rock over the mountain, and watch the effect it has. 

 

Repeat the process of moving the primitive art, and pushing rocks over the top of the mountain, until you’ve hit the banana tree on the beach.  For a bit of fun, you can try and sink your ship, as well.  When you’re done, return to the jungle. 

 

 

 

 

JUNGLE

 

Walk down to the jungle where you first arrived on Monkey Island. 

 

Look for the crack, and head there. 

 

 

 

 

CRACK

 

You’re standing on top of a cliff.  Look down, and look at the oars.  These oars belong to Herman Toothrot.  If only there was a way you could reach the oars.  Look at the strong branch, then tie ROPE to the strong branch.  Climb down the rope to the narrow ledge.  Now tie ROPE to the sturdy stump, and climb down to the bottom.  Pick up the OARS.  Climb back up the cliff, and return to the jungle. 

 

 

 

 

JUNGLE

 

Return to the beach where you first landed on this island. 

 

 

 

 

BEACH

 

Pick up BANANA from the sand.  Use OARS with the rowboat. 

 

 

 

 

JUNGLE

 

Paddle the boat up & right to the next section of the map. 

 

Paddle to the very top of the island, where you couldn’t reach before. 

 

This part of the map looks like a bird’s head.  Paddle to the beach. 

 

 

 

 

BEACH

 

Pick up NOTE from the sand, then walk up into the jungle. 

 

 

 

 

JUNGLE

 

Head up to the village (which looks like an eye). 

 

 

 

 

VILLAGE

 

What an interesting village.  Walk left a few steps, and pick up bowl of fruit to get some more BANANAS.  Walk right again, and meet the 3 cannibals.  Choose any dialogue options.  They threaten to eat you, unless you can give them some kind of sacrificial offering that that can use for The Great Monkey.  Since you don’t have anything for them, they lock you up in a hut.  Read MEMO on the floor.  Hey… wait a minute… what’s that under the window?  A BANANA PICKER?  Is this the same BANANA PICKER that Herman had stolen from him?  Take the BANANA PICKER.  Pick up SKULL from the floor, then look at the loose board.  Pick up the BOARD, and look at the resulting hole in the floor.  This could be your way to escape.  Use the hole to climb out of the hut.  Although you can fit through the hole, you’re forced to leave the BANANA PICKER behind.  Oh well, at least you know it’s there.  Watch the cut scene as you make your escape. 

 

 

 

 

JUNGLE

 

Return to the beach where you left your boat. 

 

 

 

 

BEACH

 

Use the rowboat. 

 

 

 

 

JUNGLE

 

Paddle the rowboat back to the first beach, where you first arrived at this island. 

 

 

 

 

BEACH

 

Walk up into the jungle. 

 

 

 

 

JUNGLE

 

Near the bottom of the map is a small clearing titled ‘Monkey’.  Go there. 

 

 

 

 

MONKEY

 

Well, how about that?  There’s a monkey here.  Now, monkey’s like bananas, don’t they?  Give BANANA to the monkey, and you’ll catch his interest.  Now one-by-one, give the rest of the BANANAS to the monkey.  After 5 BANANAS, he’ll become your friend, and he’ll follow you anywhere.  Return to the jungle. 

 

 

 

 

JUNGLE

 

Make your way to the top right of the jungle, and note how the monkey is following you. 

 

This section has a beach and a clearing.  Head to the clearing. 

 

 

 

 

CLEARING

 

Walk right a few steps and look at the totem pole.  Look at the nose about halfway up the pole, and pull the nose - notice how it opens the nearby gate.  Let go of the nose, and the gate closes again.  However, your monkey friend is curious, and starts swinging from the nose, which lowers the gate.  Walk right, until you’re in the Gigantic Monkey section. 

 

Look at the idols, and look at the WIMPY LITTLE IDOL to see that it’s made by Lemonhead (one of the cannibals).  Take the WIMPY LITTLE IDOL, then make your way back to the jungle. 

 

 

 

 

JUNGLE

 

Return to the beach where you first arrived on this island. 

 

 

 

 

BEACH

 

Use the rowboat. 

 

 

 

 

JUNGLE

 

Paddle your boat up to the very top of the map. 

 

Go to the beach. 

 

 

 

 

BEACH

 

Go to the village. 

 

 

 

 

VILLAGE

 

Walk left as far as you can, then walk right again.  The cannibals are waiting for you.  Choose any dialogue option.  This time, you have something for them - give them the WIMPY LITTLE IDOL, and they’ll leave you alone.  Now walk left a few steps, and notice that the door to the hut is unlocked now.  Enter the hut. 

 

Take BANANA PICKER from under the window, then leave the hut. 

 

Walk right a few steps.  Herman is here, still wanting his BANANA PICKER.  Well, he’s in luck!  Give him the BANANA PICKER, and he’ll give you the MONKEY HEAD KEY in return.  It looks just like a cotton bud swab.  Leave the village, then immediately return to the village. 

 

Work through another conversation with the cannibals.  They’re definitely no fans of Ghost Pirate LeChuck and his crew.  In fact, they want to get rid of him.  The problem is, he stole their ghost-busting root.  And to get it back, they would have to navigate a treacherous catacombs of lava deep below the island.  Unfortunately, they’ve lost the key to enter the catacombs (they lent it to Herman).  They tell you that they have a magical navigator head… but they won’t give it to you.  Hmmm, maybe you could change their minds.  Look at the green LEAPHLET in your Inventory - it’s titled ‘How To Get Ahead In Navigating’.  Give the LEAFLET to the cannibals, and they’ll give you HEAD OF THE NAVIGATOR in return.  Now walk up into the jungle. 

 

 

 

 

JUNGLE

 

Go to the beach where you left your boat. 

 

 

 

 

BEACH

 

Use the rowboat. 

 

 

 

 

JUNGLE

 

Paddle down to the next section of the island. 

 

This section has a beach and a clearing.  Land on the beach. 

 

 

 

 

BEACH

 

Pick up bottle, and read the memo.  Now walk up into the jungle. 

 

 

 

 

JUNGLE

 

Walk right to the clearing. 

 

 

 

 

CLEARING

 

Walk right to the Gigantic Monkey. 

 

Use MONKEYHEAD KEY in the Gigantic Monkeyhead Ear.  The monkey’s mouth opens.  Enter through the mouth, into the catacombs. 

 

 

 

 

CATACOMBS

 

Use HEAD OF THE NAVIGATOR, and follow his nose until you reach the Ghost Ship. 

 

When you see the Ghost Ship, talk to HEAD OF THE NAVIGATOR, and ask him for his NECKLACE.  He doesn’t want to give it to you.  Threaten him, and keep threatening him, until he gives you the NECKLACE.  Now use the NECKLACE on yourself to make yourself invisible.  Now make your way onto the Ghost Ship. 

 

 

 

 

GHOST SHIP

 

Walk left a few steps, open the door, and enter the Captain’s Cabin. 

 

In the Cabin, look at KEY on the wall.  The floor is creaky, so you can’t get to it.  Use MAGNETIC COMPASS with the KEY.  Now leave the Cabin. 

 

Walk right to other end of the ship.  Look at hatch in the floor, and climb down through the hatch, into the Sleeping Quarters. 

 

Look at the sleeping pirate, and note that he’s holding a JUG O‘ GROG.  Walk right into the next room. 

 

Look at the ghostly animals here.  Try to grab a chicken, but all you get is a GHOSTLY FEATHER.  Walk left, back to the Sleeping Quarters. 

 

Use GHOSTLY FEATHER with the sleeping pirate’s foot to tickle him.  Repeat this, until he drops his jug.  Now pick up JOG O’ GROG.  Walk right to the next room. 

 

Look at hatch in the floor.  Use GHOSTLY KEY to unlock the hatch, then climb down to the hold. 

 

Use JUG O’ GROG with the dish next to the ghostly rat.  The ghostly rat gulps down the grog, and falls down drunk.  Take GLOB OF GREASE from the giant cooking pot.  Now climb up to the room with the animals. 

 

Walk left to the Sleeping Quarters. 

 

Climb up to the ship’s deck. 

 

Try to open door on the right - it creaks loudly, alerting the Ghost Pirates to your location.  Use GLOB OF GREASE on the squeaky door, then open door on the right, and enter the Brig. 

 

The guard here is fast asleep.  Pick up GHOST TOOLS from the wall.  Look at the brig door - the Governor is probably locked in there.  But there’s no way you could open the door without waking the guard.  Go back through door on the right, back to the ship’s deck. 

 

Climb down hatch in the floor, to the Sleeping Quarters. 

 

Walk right to the next room. 

 

The ghost animals are still here.  Look at the glowing crate to learn that it contains a VOODOO ROOT.  Use GHOST TOOLS on the glowing crate to open it, then take the VOODOO ROOT.  Now make your way back up to the ship’s deck. 

 

Leave the ship. 

 

Walk left, back to the catacombs.  You automatically make your way back to the cannibal’s village. 

 

 

 

 

VILLAGE

 

Watch the cut scene with the cannibals.  After they leave, choose any dialogue for the 3-headed monkey.  The cannibals return, and give you MAGIC SELTZER BOTTLE.  Walk back up to the jungle. 

 

 

 

 

CATACOMBS

 

You automatically return to the catacombs.  Work through the dialogue with the ghost pirate, and you learn that LeChuck has taken Governor Marley back to Melee Island to force her to marry him.  Meathook, Otis, and Carla decide to show up - work through the dialogue with them.  If you get the chance, use MAGIC SELTZER BOTTLE on the ghost pirate.
