CHAPTER 1: THE CALL

PROLOGUE

TRAIN STATION
PLATFORM
Watch the cut
scene, as you desperately try… and fail… to catch the train. Explore the
area. Look at the boxes on the pole.
Look at the
information for all 4 boxes. Note that one of the boxes is tied with
rope. Use RAZOR BLADE with the rope to open the box, and
take the KEY from inside the box. Now leave the
boxes.
Look at the Injured
Organ Grinder, and try to talk to him. He can’t hear you. But pay
attention to what he’s singing - pressing the Space Bar will highlight all the
interactive hotspots in the area.
Look at the
telephone, and use KEY in the keyhole of the telephone.
Pick up the COIN from the coin slot. Leave the
telephone.
Look at the boxes
on the pole again.
One of the boxes is
locked with a coin slot. Use COIN in the coin slot to
open it, then take HEAVY KEY from inside the box.
Use HEAVY KEY to unlock the box with a keyhole. Look at
the info on the back of the box door, and note the number you see there -
420. Also note that the messafge is addressed to Vanja. Leave the
boxes for now.
Use the telephone,
and dial 420. Use the following dialogue option.
- Introduce yourself as Vanja.
You won’t get the
name ‘Vanja’, until you’ve looked at the note in the boxes with the ‘420’
numer. After a rather strange conversation, she tells you that the code
is 777. Leave the telephone.
Look at the boxes
on the pole.
The final box is
locked with a combination lock. Use the box, and select option 777 to
open the box. Take RADIO from the box. Look
at RADIO in your Inventory, and use STRAIGHTENED
BUCKET HANDLE in the Antenna Connector hole. Now push the button
in the RADIO, so you can talk to the train driver, and finally stop
the train.

CHAPTER 1:
THE CALL

TV STUDIO
Explore the
area. Talk to the Set Manager - he wants to see your invitation, before
allowing you on the stage. From your Inventory, look at your INVITATION,
then give INVITATION to the Set Manager. Now walk right,
onto the stage.
You should get
prepared, ready for your speech. Look in your Inventory. Open your
suitcase, and take out RECORD: THE SANDWICH MARCH, RECORD:
HE, SPEECH FOLDER, and SLIDES.
In your Inventory,
look at your SPEECH FOLDER. Open your SPEECH FOLDER,
look at your SPEECH, then use your SPEECH. The
pages are all out of order. Use the PAGES, then re-arrange the
pages like so.
Take a seat in the empty chair at the table, next to Eric Blair. Watch, as Sean Redkipp gives his speech. When prompted, use any dialogue options you like. After Sean finishes his speech, it’s your turn. Stand up, and walk right a few steps.
Look at the
gramophone on the right, and open the gramophone. Use RECORD:
HE with the gramophone. Make sure the Slider button is at the
top position. Set the speed to 45. Turn on the Power Switch.
The music starts playing.
Use switch in the
back wall 3 times, so that the screen is in the lowest position. However,
the screen is incomplete. Talk to the Set Manager, and work through all
the dialogue. He gives you a WHITE ROLLED UP SCREEN.
Use WHITE ROLLED UP SCREEN with the screen on the wall.
There, that’s better! Now press switch in the back wall 1 time, so that
the screen is in the middle position.
Look at the
projector at front of the stage. Take the SLIDER HOLDER from
the projector. In your Inventory, place your SLIDES into
the SLIDE HOLDER. Now look at the SLIDER HOLDER in
your Inventory.
Ignore the slides
of you as a child, and place the remaining slides like so.

Place SLIDE HOLDER back into it’s slot in the projector. Press the Power Switch. Press Start Button to set the slides rolling.
Use your SPEECH
FOLDER with the lectern. Watch the cut scene, as you give your
speech.
The audience
doesn’t like your speech, and Boo you loudly! However, someone has been
watching you, very closely. After your speech, talk to the Set Manager
again, who tells you to leave, and not come back! Walk left to leave the
stage.
Anna Eaglove makes
contact with you. She’s the woman who took such an interest in your
speech. You’re completely smitten with her! She gives you ENVELOPE
FROM ANNA, and tells you that she’ll make contact again soon. Walk
left through the door to leave the TV Studio and return home.
HOME - LIVING ROOM
Your dad tells you
that you had a call from Matryoshka, and they want you to call them back.
Look at ENVELOPE
FROM ANNA in your Inventory, then open ENVELOPE FROM ANNA.
The letter indicates that placing a potted flower in the window signals Anna
that she should contact you. Unfortunately, there’s no flowers in the
house. You need to get creative. Walk right, into the
kitchen.
HOME - KITCHEN
Look at the kitchen
to get a close-up view.
Open the fridge,
and take COLD INSTANT TURKEY. Open the oven door, and
place COLD INSTANT TURKEY into the oven. Close the
oven. Look at the switches at top of the oven, and use switch on the
right to turn the oven on. Wait for the timer to go off - this will tell
you when the food is ready. When you hear it ding, open the oven, then
eat the HOT TURKEY. It was delicious! Take POT from
the oven. Now turn off the oven, close oven door, close fridge, then
leave the close-up.
Walk left a few
steps, and climb up the stairs to your bedroom.
HOME - BEDROOM
Your mum is here,
hovering your bedroom. Talk to her, and work through all the
dialogue. When conversation is over, explore your bedroom. Remove
the red flag that’s hanging on the bookshelf, then take GULLIVER’S
TRAVELS BOOK. Look at GULLIVER’S TRAVELS BOOK in
your Inventory, open it, and take your PASSPORT that was
hidden inside. Look at PASSPORT in your Inventory, open
it, and look at the photo. When you’re ready, leave your bedroom.
HOME - LIVING ROOM
Use phone on the
wall on the left, and dial Matryoshka on 007 1234 (your mum told you the
number). Unfortunately, there’s no phone signal. You dad tells you
to check the connection in the basement. Open the door under the stairs,
and head down to the basement.
HOME - BASEMENT
Explore the
basement. Open the telephone switchboard cabinet, and see the racoon
scarper out the window. Use the telephone switchboard, and adjust the
wire like this.
You fixed the telephone switchboard. Use POT with the packets of garden soil to get POT OF SOIL. Leave the basement, and return to the living room.
HOME - LIVING ROOM
Use phone on the
wall on the left again, and dial Matryoshka on 007 1234. When asked for
the password, answer as follows.
- Zergrzyslav (4th option)
You need to place a
photo of the Leader near the phone, in order to continue the
conversation. Unfortunately, you’re not carrying a photo of the
Leader. Leave the phone, and climb up stairs to your bedroom.
HOME - BEDROOM
Talk to your mum
and work through all the dialogue. Look at your desk.
Look at everything on your desk. Pick up MR SKRAM’S BUST.
Pick up PHOTO OF THE LEADER. Pick up SCISSORS.
Open the top drawer, look at the medallion, open the medallion, and look at
photo of the woman inside medallion. Close the drawer. Leave your
desk.
Leave your bedroom
and go back downstairs.
HOME - LIVING ROOM
Look at the phone again. Place PHOTO OF THE LEADER on
the shelf next to the phone. You are officially invited to
Matryoshka! Leave the phone.
Walk right, into
the kitchen.
HOME - KITCHEN
Remember that the letter you received from Anna tells you to leave a
potted plant in the window? Let’s get on with that. Use SCISSORS with
the woollen tablecloth to get a WOOLLEN FLOWER. Leave the
kitchen.
HOME - LIVING ROOM
Go through the door
under the stairs, and enter the basement.
HOME - BASEMENT
Wow! Someone has fried your telephone switchboard! And that
someone got stuck in the window as they were trying to escape. Try to
talk to that person if you like, but you won’t get very far. Look at the
damage to the telephone switchboard. Your dad will NOT be pleased!
The cupboard on the right will be open now, so look at the photos on the back
of the door, and note the 3 cars with the numbers 04 02 81. Look at the
plaque with numbers next to the entrance, and enter 04 02 81. A compartment
opens above the plaque. Take HUNTING EQUIPMENT from the
compartment. Take METAL CUTTING SCISSORS from the
compartment. Use METAL CUTTING SCISSORS with the metal
flower holder table to get a METAL STEM. Leave the
basement.
HOME - LIVING ROOM
Watch the cut
scene, as the FIA infiltrate your house. They are convinced that there
has been ‘unauthorised contact’ with Matryoshka, and they are determined to
perform a complete investigation. Climb up the stairs, into your
bedroom.
HOME - BEDROOM
In your Inventory, combine POT OF SOIL with METAL
STEM, then combine the resulting POLE POT with WOOLLEN
FLOWER. You’ve created a FAKE FLOWER. Place FAKE
FLOWER on the window. Nothing happens! No contact from
Anna! Move FAKE FLOWER to the other side of the
window. A BRICK is thrown through your window.
Must be from Anna. Pick up the BRICK. In your
Inventory, look at BRICK WRAPPED IN PAPER, then unwrap BRICK
WRAPPED IN PAPER. It’s PAPER WITH INSTRUCTIONS, and it‘s
from Anna. Let’s follow her instructions then. Look at MY
CLOTHES that are neatly folded on the ironing board next to the
door. Pick up MY CLOTHES, then place MY CLOTHES in
your SUITCASE. Leave your bedroom.
HOME - LIVING ROOM
Use door under the
stairs to enter the basement.
HOME - BASEMENT
Open the washer, and take your RED SOCKS. Place RED
SOCKS in your SUITCASE. Use HUNTING
EQUIPMENT with the open washer - the washer breaks. Now leave
the basement, and make your way back up to your bedroom.
HOME - BEDROOM
Move the FAKE FLOWER to the other side of the window
again. This time, a ROCK is thrown through your
window. Pick up the ROCK. In your Inventory, look
at ROCK IN PAPER, then unwrap ROCK IN PAPER.
It’s FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS from Anna. Leave your bedroom,
and go down to the living room.
HOME - LIVING ROOM
Talk to your mum to
tell her that you’re leaving. Talk to your dad to tell him that you’re
leaving. Use door under the stairs to enter the basement.
HOME - BASEMENT
Anna is waiting for you outside the window. Take Anna’s
hand. After a brief conversation, give her your SUITCASE,
then take her hand. Watch the cut scene as you leave your home, and
arrive in Matryoshka.
