5 Days A Stranger

DAY 1

 

Watch the intro, as you arrive at the supposedly-abandoned DeFoe Manor.  You are Trilby, infamous cat-burglar.  And you’re determined to steal the DeFoe family fortune.

 

After you enter the Study, try to open the window - it’s jammed.  Look at the cabinet and it’s contents.  Try to open the safe, only to discover it’s empty.  The family lawyers must have got there first.  Damn!  Look at painting on the wall.  Search the desk - nothing of interest in there.  Look at certificates on the wall.  Oh well, since the safe is empty, there‘s no reason for you to stick around.  But remember, the window is jammed, so the only way out is through the door.

 

Out in the hallway, you learn that the house is not so empty, after all.  Apparently there’s someone else here.  And you scared him.  Walk along the hallway, and enter door on the right, into the bathroom.

 

Explore the bathroom.  Open the shower curtain.  You can’t really do anything else in here, so just leave the bathroom.

 

Climb down the stairs to the Ground Floor.

 

In the Entranceway, enter door on the left, into the Dining Room.

 

Look at portrait of Sir Roderick DeFoe on the Dining Room wall.  Go through door on the left, into the kitchen.

 

Explore the kitchen.  Open cabinet to the left of the cooker, and look at the huge bag of salt.  Remember this, for later.  Go through door on the left, into the garden.

 

Pick up TWIG from the ground.  Explore the garden, and take note of the swimming pool and the pipeline.  When you’re ready, go back through door on the left, into the kitchen.

 

Head right, and continue right, until you reach the Entranceway.

 

Pick up NEWSPAPER from the table next to the front door.  Open your Inventory, and read the NEWSPAPER to learn that Clarence DeFoe was found hanging from a tree, and his wife Julia had been found stabbed to death in the mansion.  Not a good way to go! Go through door on the right, into the Lounge.

 

Explore the Lounge, and look at painting on the wall.  Now go through door on the right, into the TV Room.

 

Turn on the TV, and watch the News Report about Sir Clarence DeFoe.  Pick up the white EXTENSION CORD.  When you’re ready, head through door on the right into the Trophy Room.

 

In the Trophy Room, you meet Phil Harty.  He tells you that you are now a prisoner in this house, since everyone who enters is unable to escape.  He wants to hold a meeting in the Living Room, to discuss the situation.  Explore the room if you like, looking at all the photos and animal heads.  When you’re ready, head left and continue left back to the Entranceway.

 

Climb the stairs up to the First Floor.

 

Walk right a few steps, and have a quick conversation with Simone Taylor, then follow her downstairs to the Ground Floor.

 

Head left through the door, and continue left until you reach the garden.

 

In garden, push the tree.  Hmm, there’s someone in the tree.  Talk to the tree, and you’ll meet Jim.  After the conversation, go through door on the left, and make your way back to the Lounge.

 

In the Lounge, the meeting begins.  When you get the change, talk to Simone and work through all the dialogue.  Talk to Phil and work through all the dialogue.  Phil gives you an ARTICLE from Treasure Hunting Monthly Magazine.  Open your Inventory, and read the ARTICLE.  Talk to Jim and work through all the dialogue.  After the meeting, you feel tired, and decide to go to bed.

 

 

 


DAY 2

 

You wake up on the settee, after a horrendous dream.  Go through door on the right, into the TV Room.

 

Turn on the TV and watch the News Report about Simone Taylor.  Now head left, and continue left, to the Entranceway.

 

Go through door on the left, into the Dining Room.

 

Look at portrait of Roderick DeFoe on the Dining Room wall - it’s… different! Talk to Jim and work through all the dialogue.  Head through door on the left, and continue left into the garden.

 

In the garden, walk right a few steps, and look at the pool.  You see a blurry shape, but you can’t quite make out what it is.  Walk right to the lawn.

 

Talk to Phil and work through all the dialogue.  When you’re ready, head left, and make your way back to the Entranceway.

 

Climb up the stairs to the First Floor.

 

In the Hallway, enter the 2nd door on the left - the door next to the stairs, so you are in the Library.

 

Talk to Simone and work through all the dialogue.  Look at bookshelf, and notice the sunbleached skull on the shelf near Simone.  Creepy!  Pick up blue books from the bottom left shelf.  Pick up yellow books from the 2nd shelf on the left to find a MAP.  Open your Inventory, and read the blue DEFOE FAMILY HISTORY BOOK.  Also, look at the MAP PLAN of the DeFoe Manor.  When you’re ready, leave the Library.

 

Climb down the stairs to the Ground Floor.

 

In the Entranceway, head through door on the left, and make your way to the garden.

 

Continue right to the lawn, where Phil is.  Show him the MAP PLAN - that’s his escape plan out the window!  He gives you his METAL DETECTOR, since he doesn’t need it anymore.  Walk left to the pool.

 

Use METAL DETECTOR with the pipeline in the ground.  You track where the pipeline leads, and end up at a pile of dirt Phil dug up in the lawn.

 

Pick up some of the dirt to reveal a panel.  Look at the panel, and try to use the panel - it didn’t seem to do anything.  Walk left, to the garden.

 

Ahh, the pool is drained now.  That must have been what the panel controls.  Climb down the ladder into the pool.  You find the gruesome body of AJ! After telling the others about AJ, you need to get some rest, so you go to bed.

 

 

 

 

DAY 3

 

Jim wakes you from another scary nightmare.  Go through door on the right, into the TV Room.

 

Turn on the TV and watch the News Report about the DeFoe family lawyer’s murder.  Now head through door on the left, and continue left to the Entranceway.

 

Continue through door on the left into the Dining Room.

 

Look at portrait of Roderick DeFoe - it’s changed again.  Talk to Phil and work through all the dialogue.  He’s still very shaken up about AJ’s murder, and he’s lashing out at you.  Go through door on the left, and make your way out into the garden.

 

You’re very surprised to find your car parked in the middle of the garden.  How did it get there?  Search the car to find your LOCKPICKS.  Use LOCKPICKS to pick the lock for the tool shed, then enter the tool shed.

 

In the tool shed, take SAW that’s hanging on the wall on the left.  Take PICKAXE from floor on the right.  Now leave the tool shed.

 

Walk right a few steps, and climb down ladder into the garden pool.

 

Talk to Simone, who’s investigating AJ’s body, and work through all the dialogue.  When you’re ready, climb up out of the pool.

 

Head through door on the left, and make your way back to the Entranceway.

Climb up the stairs to the First Floor.

 

Enter through 2nd door on the left, into the Library.

 

Talk to Jim and work through all the dialogue.  Now leave the Library - Jim will follow you.

Use your LOCKPICKS to pick the lock on the 4th door (next to the bathroom), then enter through door into the master bedroom.

 

Open the wardrobe, and take the green BOOK from the top shelf.  Open your Inventory, and read THE DIARY OF SIR RODERICK DEFOE.  Look at scratches below window on the right.  Now open the window, then climb out to the ledge.

 

While standing on the ledge, look at the loose roof tile, look at the tree, and look at window on the right.  If you manage to cut the tree down, you may be able to access the other window.  But you can’t do this by yourself.  Climb back through the window, into the master bedroom.

 

Leave the master bedroom through door on the left.

 

In the Hallway, go through 2nd door on the left, into the Library.

 

Talk to Jim, and ask him to tag along with you.  Leave the Library.  Jim will follow you.

 

Climb down the stairs to the Entranceway.

 

Head through door on the left, and continue left until you reach the garden.

 

Use your SAW on the tree in the garden to cut it down - Jim automatically helps you.  Go back through door on the left, into the kitchen.

 

Make your way back to the Entranceway.

 

Climb the stairs up to the First Floor.

 

Enter the 4th door in the Hallway, into the master bedroom.

 

Climb through window on the right, out to the ledge.

 

Note that the tree is gone now.  Use your GROLLY (blue umbrella) with the loose tile in the roof to jump across to the other window.  Now climb through the window, into the child’s bedroom.

 

Explore the child’s bedroom, and take TEDDY from the bed.  Open nightstand and take the red book from the nightstand.  Open your Inventory and read THE SECRET DIARY OF MATTHEW DEFOE.  Poor Matthew appears to be a rather troubled little boy! You need to find Matthew’s body, and hopefully put an end to this nightmare, once and for all.  When you’re ready, leave the child’s bedroom through door on the left.

 

Go through 2nd door in the Hallway, into the Library.

 

Look at the black Occult books on the Library shelf near Jim, and take an Occult book.  Now open your Inventory and read the BOOK ON WHITE MAGIC to learn how to 'find a person from their possession'.  Let’s get started then.  Open your Inventory, and tie the white EXTENSION CORD around Matthew’s TEDDY.  Now tie CORD & BEAR to the STICK.  Now leave the Library.

 

Climb down the stairs to the Ground Floor.

 

Head through door on the left, and make your way to the kitchen.

 

Remember that huge bag of salt you found earlier, in the kitchen cabinet? This is where it becomes useful.  Dip BEAR & STICK into the salt.  Now leave the kitchen through door on the right, and make your way back up to the First Floor.

 

Enter through 3rd door in the hallway, into the child’s bedroom.

 

Use the SALTY BEAR & STICK with Matthew’s bed.  That’s all you can do here for now, so leave the child’s bedroom.

 

Climb down the stairs to the Ground Floor.

 

Head through door on the left, and continue left until you reach the kitchen.

 

In the kitchen, look at wall on the left.  There should be a stairwell right behind this wall.  Use your PICKAXE on the wall to break through it, then climb through the hole into the basement.

 

Look at chains in corner of the basement.  Now open your Inventory, and look at (not use) the SALTY BEAR & STICK, and follow the directions it gives you.  Repeat this, until you find where Matthew’s body is buried.  When you find the right 'Area', dig the ’Area’ with your hands.  You find the remains of Sir Roderick and Mathew.  Were they murdered?  You suddenly hear a crash coming from the other side of the house, so leave the basement.

 

Head right, and continue right, until you reach the Trophy Room.

 

The idol in the glass case has fallen to the floor, and smashed.  Try to pick up the idol.  You don’t remember anything after that.

 

 

 


DAY 4

 

You wake up in the tool shed, after suffering another terrifying dream.  Did you really kill Phil?  Try to open the door - it’s locked.  Open your Inventory.  Most of your items are missing, including your LOCKPICKS.  How are you gonna escape now?  Talk to the window - Simone is out there, keeping guard over you, until the police arrive.  Talk to Simone again, and work through all the dialogue.  Keep talking to her, and make sure you ask about all the topics.  The important dialogue options are:

 

     - What makes you think I killed Philip, anyway?
     - I was possessed by the ghost!
     - It possessed me, just like it did when I killed AJ. 
     - I’m delirious with guilt most of the time.

 

Simone doesn’t believe you, but at least she returns your tie.  Pick up tie from the floor, and you automatically wear it again.  Thankfully, your emergency LOCKPICK is still hidden in your tie, so use LOCKPICK on the door to pick the lock.  Now simply open the door, and walk out.

 

Go through door on the left, into the kitchen.

 

Look at Phil’s body on the floor - he’s been run through with a machete.  There’s nothing you can do for him now, so go through door on the right, into the Dining Room.

 

Look at portrait of Roderick DeFoe on the wall.  Very creepy! Head right, and continue right, until you reach the TV Room.

 

Turn on the TV, and watch the report on ‘The Haunting Of DeFoe Manor’.  Head left, and continue left to the Entranceway.

 

Climb up the stairs to the First Floor.

 

SAVE YOUR GAME HERE.  Enter door on the far right, into the bathroom.

 

The bathroom appears to be empty.  But Simone follows you in, and tells you that she now believes you are innocent, since she’s seen the killer again, while you were locked in the tool shed.  Before you can react, the killer enters the bathroom, trapping you and Simone.  You HAVE to do something! And QUICKLY! Wait until he is on the rug, then pull the rug, to make him loose his balance.  He falls, and gets knocked unconscious.  The welder mask falls off him, to reveal… JIM!

 

 

 


DAY 5

 

The start of another day.  You and Simone discuss the situation.  Jim is resting, and he has no memory of the events from last night.  Work through all the dialogue with Simone.  It’s such a tragedy, what happened to the DeFoe family.  You both agree that you HAVE to find the Welder’s body.  Enter 2nd door in the Hallway, into the Library.

 

In the Library, look at the black Occult books on the right, and take an Occult book.  In your Inventory, read BLACK MAGIC BOOK to learn how to summon spirits.  When you’re ready, leave the library.

 

Enter 3rd door in the Hallway, into the child’s bedroom.

 

In the bedroom, talk to Jim and work through all the dialogue.  He gives you the WELDING MASKAPRON, and MACHETE, and asks you to get rid of them for him.  Leave the bedroom.

 

Climb down the stairs to the Ground Floor.

 

Go through door on the right, into the Living Room.

 

Talk to Simone and work through all the dialogue.  Take SCISSORS from the dresser.  Now go through door on the right, into the TV Room.

 

Turn on the TV, and watch the report that’s taking place right now, outside the DeFoe Manor.  Apparently, police are trying to break into the Manor.  Now head through door on the left, and continue left, until you reach the Dining Room.

 

Look at the DeFoe portrait on the wall - it’s now just a blank canvas.  Go through door on the left, into the kitchen.

 

Phil’s body is still here.  Poor Phil! Now remember, you’re trying to find the Welder’s body.  It’s the same process as when you found Matthew’s body.  Open your Inventory, and use SCISSORS to cut the APRON to get a leather STRIP.  Tie the leather STRIP with the MACHETE, then use MACHETE & STRIP with the WELDING MASK.  Finally, dip MASK & MACHETE into the bag of salt in the kitchen cabinet.  Now climb through hole on the left, into the Basement.

 

In the Basement, use SALTY MASK & MACHETE on the chains in the corner.  Open your Inventory, and look at (not use) SALTY MASK & MACHETE, and follow the directions it gives you.  Repeat this, until you find yourself upstairs in the bathroom.

 

In the bathroom, open Inventory again, and look at SALTY MASK & MACHETE.  Repeat this, and follow directions, until it’s pointing down at the tiles.  Look at the tiles.  Now open your Inventory, and use SCISSORS on SALTY MASK & MACHETE to dismantle it.  Use MACHETE on the tiles to pry them up.  You discover a body hidden under the tiles!  Look at the body to confirm that it’s Matthew‘s brother.  Pick up the BODY, then leave the bathroom.

 

Climb down the stairs to the Ground Floor.

 

Head right, and continue right, until you reach the Trophy Room.

 

Place the BODY REMAINS on the floor of the Trophy Room.  Use WELDING MASK and APRON with the BODY REMAINS.  Head through door on the left, and continue left until you reach the Living Room.

 

Talk to Simone, and ask her to meet you in the Trophy Room.  Go through door on the left, to the Entranceway.

 

Climb up stairs to the First Floor.

 

Head through 3rd door in the Hallway, into Matthew’s bedroom.

 

Talk to Jim, and ask him to go down to the Trophy Room.  Leave the bedroom.

 

Climb down stairs to the Ground Floor.

 

Head right, and continue right, until you reach the Trophy Room.

 

Give TEDDY to Jim.  Take RIFLE from above the fireplace, and give RIFLE to Simone.  Open your Inventory, and use BLACK MAGIC BOOK on yourself.

 

Now sit back, and enjoy the ending.  Congratulations - you have ended the horror that has plagued this Manor for so long.
