CHAPTER 3:  REACHING THE UNDERLAND

THAURI CAVE

 

Watch the intro as our team continue their perilous journey into the Underland.  They finally reach a Thauri cave, and enter it.

 

When you gain control of the game, you are welcomed with a close-up of a giant monolith which is covered in vines.  Look at Deity symbol and the tree symbol on the monolith.  The vines prevent you from seeing anything else, so exit the close-up. 

 

Lina suggest you remove the vines with your MACHETE.  Kito has the MACHETE, but… where is Kito?  Look at JOURNEL OF THE JOURNEY DOWN book to get a close-up.  In the book, look at the map and look at the Deity diagrams.  Click on each Deity diagrams to get a description.  Now exit the close-up.  Search your backpack to find a CACTUS.  Ouch!  Walk right, into the mouth of the skull. 

 

Well, you found Kito.  He’s having fun, bouncing up & down on some giant fungi.  How did he get up there?  Look at the fungi.  Open the crate on the left - it’s empty.  Talk to Kito and ask him to come down, but he’s having too much fun.  You need to find a way to make him come down from the fungi.  Use your CACTUS with the fungi to burst it.  Kito gives you the MACHETE now.  Pick up the deflated FUNGUS.  Walk left, back to the first cave. 

 

Use MACHETE on the giant monolith to clear the vines.  You get a close-up of the monolith again.  Click on both hieroglyphic symbols to get more information, then exit the close-up. 

 

Pick up VINES from the ground, then enter right through the giant mouth again. 

 

If you haven’t done so already, open the crate - it’s empty.  Tie VINES to the crate.  Attach the giant FUNGUS to the crate.  You almost have a hot-air balloon, you just have to inflate the FUNGUS again.  Now open gate on the right, and walk on through to the shrine. 

 

Touch the pedestal.  Wow, you caused a huge explosion!  The hot-air balloon inflates, and you use it to escape from the underground cave. 

 

Watch a cutscene as you are shot down.  The Armando Power Company are here, and they’re destroying the Underland. 

 

 

 

 

ABANDONED PRISON MINING STATION

 

Have a look around the place.  Look at the roots to find a PETRIFIED ROOT.  Look at your PETRIFIED ROOT to see that it contains some crystals.  Look at the water.  Look at the skeleton.  Look at sign on the fence.  Try to open the gate, but it’s locked.  Use MACHETE on the gate to break it open.  Now walk right, through the gate. 

 

Kito and Lina are up here.  Pull switch on column on the left - it won’t work since there’s no power.  Look at the bucket-chain.  Talk to Kito, and look at the generator he’s working on.  Climb up the stairs and talk to Lina.  You NEED to get the power working.  Walk past Lina, up onto the balcony. 

 

Throw your PETRIFIED ROOT down onto the ground below.  The ROOT smashes open, revealing the CRYSTALS inside.  Head back down to the ground. 

 

Pick up the ROOT CRYSTALS.  Now walk right, through the gate into the Mining Station again. 

 

Give ROOT CRYSTALS to Kito so he can fix the generator.  Success!  You have power!  Lina uses the computer, and finds some encrypted data.  You need to decrypt it.  Press the data slots as so:

 

        DECRYPTION 1:       Top, right, left, bottom

        DECRYPTION 2:       Left bottom, left second from top, left top,

                                                      left second from bottom

 

You’ve uncovered secret drilling plans from the Armando Power Company.  They plan to destroy all life down here in the Underland.  You HAVE to stop them.  Lina gives you a MICROFILM and asks you to deliver it to her old friend Professor Moorhead at her old university.  Meanwhile, she’ll try to stop the plans from down here. 

 

Use the switch on the left to activate the bucket chain, and watch as you and Kito travel upwards. 

 

Watch another cutscene, which ends with you and Kito running into some unexpected trouble.  Use any response to the Resistance gang.  Hey, wait a minute… they’re old friends of yours.  They take you to their hideout. 

 

 

 

 

RESISTANCE ROCKERS HIDEOUT

 

Work through all the dialogue with Waasi and Bombshell.  They bring you up to speed with what’s been going on in St Armando, and tell you about the corrupt Mayor Marobo.  When conversation is over, take AIR HORN from the table.  Look at CASSETTE on the table.  Look around the room, and click on everything.  Look at the huge truck - it’s broken down, but Kito is busy trying to fix it.  Head up through archway next to the truck. 

 

Open box and take the JACKHAMMER.  Return left to the Hideout. 

 

Climb up stairs on the left, to the canal. 

 

 

 

 

CANAL

 

This industrial area used to be a canal.  Look at sign on the wall to learn that it‘s canal 412B.  Look at the wrecked car twice, and you realise there‘s still some gas in the tank.  Walk left, through the entrance, into the train. 

 

On the train, travel to Sankara Square. 

 

 

 

 

SANKARA SQUARE

 

Well, what do you know?  Sabo and Mama Makena have teamed up, and are running a restaurant together.  Work through all the dialogue. 

 

When conversation is over, play with the BUNNY toy on the counter.  Keep doing this until the battery dies.  It’s useless to Mama Makena now, so she lets you take the BUNNY toy.  Have a look around the place if you like.  When you’re ready, climb down the stairs on the left. 

 

At bottom of the stairs is a market place.  Have a look around.  Look at fruit on the left stall to get a CERTIFICATE sticker.  Talk to the stall owners to get some free juice, which you drink.  Walk up to the demonstration at the Barricades. 

 

Apparently the demonstration is getting filmed for a TV Broadcast.  Choose any response for Gabi, the TV reporter.  She decides to take a 5-minute break.  Talk to Gabi and work through all the dialogue.  Talk to the Camera Man and work through all the dialogue.  Use AIR HORN with the Camera Man to make a loud noise and break his microphone.  This is the chance Gabi has been waiting for - she leaves the Camera Man, and you take her back to the Resistance Rockers Hideout. 

 

 

 

 

RESISTANCE ROCKERS HIDEOUT

 

Gabi gives you a FILM CAMERA.  Hook FILM CAMERA up to cable on the right.  Now load MICROFILM into the FILM CAMERA to play the film proving Armando Power Company plans to destroy the Underland.  With this proof, Gab has had enough of working for the government, and decides to go rogue, so she can report what she wants.  She takes you to Agibo University, where Professor Moorhead used to work, then she leaves to find her ‘big break’. 

 

 

 

 

AGIBO UNIVERSITY

 

Approach the University on the right. 

 

Try to open door to the University, but it’s locked.  Pull down fire escape on the right, and climb up the ladder, and through the window, into the building. 

 

You seem to be in some kind of Surveillance Room in the University.  Search boxes to find a MAGNET.  Look at the monitors.  Look at CCTV Machine to get a close-up.  You don’t know what to do here yet, so exit the close-up.  Walk right to leave the room. 

 

Look in the Mailbox, which is next to door on the left.  You find a letter about Professor Moorhead’s office being broken into.   Note that the letter is dated 22 March, which is one week after the break-in.  Enter door on the left, into the office. 

 

This is Lina and Professor Moorhead’s old office.  Look at map next to the door.  Look at pinboard, and click on the photograph and the article to get some more information.  Exit close-up of the pinboard.  Look at book on the table, and flick through all the pages.  Exit close-up of the book.  Look at the copy machine to realise it’s out of paper.  Pick up clock from the floor, and notice that it’s stuck at 6.42.  Okay, you now know exactly when this break-in occurred - 15 March at 6.42.  Leave the office. 

 

Go back to Surveillance Room at top of the stairs.  Look at CCTV Machine, and set the date to 15 March, and the time to 6.42 (AM).  Press the Play button, to see the thugs who broke into the office.  You automatically take a POLAROID picture of them.  Now you need to identify them.  Climb back out the window. 

 

Walk left to leave the University building. 

 

Walk left through the park, and back to the train. 

 

Travel to the Canal.

Climb down the stairs to enter the Resistance Rockers Hideout.

 

 

 

 

RESISTANCE ROCKERS HIDEOUT

 

Talk to Waasi and talk to Bombshell, the drummer.  Show POLAROID to Waasi.  He recognises the thugs as the Bozi Brothers.  Climb up stairs on the left, back to the canal. 

 

 

 

 

CANAL

 

Enter door on the left to enter the train. 

 

Travel to Downtown. 

 

 

 

 

DOWNTOWN

 

You arrive at the arcade.  Talk to Isobel and Saskia, and work through all the dialogue.  Walk up, into the City. 

 

Talk to Rose and work through all the dialogue.  She confirms that the Bozi Brothers live here, in this condemned building.  When conversation is over, look at her SATELLITE PHONE twice, then enter through the door next to her. 

 

At top of the building, take the empty GAS CAN.  Read Notice on the wall, and read Plaque on the wall.  Walk left to enter the apartment. 

 

You sensibly just peek your head round the door.  Sure enough, the Bozi Brothers are here, and they have Professor Moorhead.  You leave, before they see you.  You have to find a way to rescue Professor Moorhead.  Leave the building. 

 

Head right to return to the arcade. 

 

Walk left to return to the train. 

 

Travel to the canal. 

 

 

 

 

CANAL

 

Look at wrecked car next to the entrance a few times, to realise it still has some fuel.  Use empty GAS CAN with the wrecked car, then push the wrecked car to tip it over.  Take the full GAS CAN, which is lying in front of the wrecked car.  In your Inventory, combine full GAS CAN with the JACKHAMMER.  Enter door on the left, to return to the train. 

 

Travel to Downtown. 

 

 

 

 

DOWNTOWN

 

You’re back at the arcade.  Use the JACKHAMMER with the arcade machine next to Isabel and Saskia.  You break into the arcade machine, spilling the coins from inside the machine, so that Isabel and Saskia can regain their Top Score.  Pick up some QUARTERS from the ground.  Now walk up, into the city. 

 

Use QUARTERS in all 4 laundry machines.  The vibrations cause a lot of rumbling, making the Bozi Brothers on the top floor think that demolition has begun on the building.  They run for their lives, leaving the apartment unguarded.  Enter door next to Rose to enter the building. 

 

On the top floor, enter apartment on the left.  Professor Moorhead is here, unguarded, so you rescue him. 

 

Watch some cutscenes. 

 

 

 

 

RESISTANCE ROCKERS HIDEOUT

 

After the cutscenes, you end up back at the Resistance Rockers Hideout.  Professor Moorhead, and Gabi are also here.  You need to all work together if you want to stop the Armando Power Company and their dastardly plan.  Talk to Gabi, and she tells you she needs a POWER COMPANY LICENSE PLATE.  Talk to Bombshell, and she tells you she needs a REMOTE DETONATOR.  Talk to Kito under the truck, and he tells you he needs a BATTERY.  Take a box of FIRECRACKERS from the wall behind Bombshell.  Climb up stairs on the left to get to the canal. 

 

 

 

 

CANAL

 

Walk through entrance on the left to enter the train. 

 

Travel to Downtown. 

 

 

 

 

DOWNTOWN

 

You’re back at the arcade.  Walk up, into the City. 

 

Enter doorway next to Rose. 

 

At the top floor, enter the apartment. 

 

In the apartment, have a look around.  Take STACK OF PAPERS from table on the left.  Walk left through the door, out onto the balcony. 

 

On the balcony, look at the air conditioner unit to see that it’s really close to falling off the window.  Use JACKHAMMER with the air conditioner unit, and it really does fall from the balcony, to the street far below.  Take LIGHTER from the ashtray.  Leave the apartment, and return to the street where Rose is sitting.  

 

Walk right to the arcade. 

 

Heehee, the air conditioner unit landed on the Power Company van, trapping the annoying man inside.  Click on the van to talk to the man.  Now use JACKHAMMER on the van to get the LICENSE PLATE

 

Head left to the train.

 

Travel to Agibo University. 

 

 

 

 

AGIBO UNIVERSITY

 

Enter the park, and approach the University building. 

 

Officer Beamis is here, keeping an eye on the university.  Talk to him and work through all the dialogue.  He’s extremely nervous about being out in the open like this.  When he turns his back on you, put box of FIRECRACKERS in his squad car, then use LIGHTER with the squad car to light the FIRECRACKERS.  Poor Officer Beamis thinks he’s being shot at.  He jumps in his squad car and drives away. 

 

Approach the university building again. 

 

Climb up through window on the right. 

 

Inside the university, make your way to Professor Moorhead’s office. 

 

In the office, put STACK OF PAPERS in the copy machine.  Put CERTIFICATE of purity sticker in the copy machine.  Now use the copy machine twice to get a whole stack of CERTIFICATES.  Leave the office, leave the university, and make your way back to the train. 

 

Travel to Sankara Square. 

 

 

 

 

SANKARA SQUARE

 

This is where Mama Makena and Sabo have their restaurant now.  Use your MAGNET with the TV to distort the reception.  Sabo becomes frustrated, and throws a CLEAVER at the TV, thus breaking it.  Take CLEAVER from the TV.  In your Inventory, use CLEAVER with the BUNNY toy to chop it’s head off, thus getting a BATTERY.  Unfortunately, the BATTERY is drained.  Never mind, you still have the SEVERED BUNNY head.  Climb down the stairs, to the market area. 

 

Head up to the demonstration protest. 

 

Talk to Pablo, and work through all the dialogue.  Notice how the Riot Police keep shocking him.  When conversation is over, put the drained BATTERY in Pablo’s pocket.  Talk to Pablo again - the next time he gets shocked, your BATTERY will be charged.  Pick up charged BATTERY from the street.  Climb back up stairs on the right, and make your way back to the train. 

 

Travel to Downtown. 

 

 

 

 

DOWNTOWN

 

At the arcade, walk up into the city. 

 

Look at Rose’s SATELLITE PHONE again.  This could be used as a remote detonator.  Give stack of CERTIFICATES to Rose, then take the SATELLITE PHONE.  Return to the train. 

 

Travel to the Canal.

Head down into the Resistance Rockers Hideout. 

 

 

 

 

RESISTANCE ROCKERS HIDEOUT

 

Give LICENSE PLATE to Gabi.  Give SATELLITE PHONE to Bombshell.  Walk down to the truck, and give BATTERY to Kito.  Your plan of attack is ready to put into action.  Watch cutscene as you break into the Armando Power Company. 

 

 

 

 

SISULU PIRATE HANGER

 

Watch another cutscene, where Lina is captured by Sisulu pirates, and thrown in a pit. 

 

You’re playing as Lina now.  Look at the lock on your cage.  Things are looking very grim… wait a minute, this is a strange turn for the books.  Look at barrel next to your cage twice, and you get a ladle full of GRUB from the barrel.  Talk to Wothar twice.  Look at the barrel of eel rinse next to Wother, and he gives you a mug of EEL RINSE.  Wait until grate of the furnace is open, then throw your mug of EEL RINSE at the furnace to cause a big blast, which causes the ship to lose pressure.  Wothar is proud that this batch of EEL RINSE is so strong.  If you mis-time it, simply click on the barrel with EEL RINSE again.  Now use ladle with the GRUB to reach KEYS next to the cage, then use KEYS on the lock in your cage.  The cage door opens.  Luckily, Wothar doesn’t notice.  Climb up the stairs. 

 

The hanger is swarming with pirates.  You have to find a way to escape from here without being seen.  Walk left to where Erza, the Sisulu pirate who captured you is sleeping. 

 

Take SWORD that is stuck in the chest.  Try to take PARACHUTE next to Erza.  She wakes up, and stops you.  In a brave move, you cut her hammock, sending her (and the PARACHUTE) falling down to the ground far below.  The pirate guards detect the PARACHUTE, and think it’s you trying to escape.  They all grab their parachutes, and set out after you.  When the coast is clear, search the treasure chest to find a hunting NECKLACE.  There’s also a MANIFEST here, but you don’t have any use for it right now.  Go right to where the air crafts are stored. 

 

The guards have indeed all left.  Look at both aircrafts - the one on the right is your way out of here.  Unfortunately it’s completely locked down.  Leave the aircraft and climb back down the stairs, to the pit. 

 

Look at rope on the right.  Use SWORD on the rope to cut it, and find a GRAPPLING GUN.  Climb back up the stairs again. 

 

Look at hatch in the ceiling.  Use GRAPPLING GUN with the hatch to find yourself in Madame Sisulu’s Throne Room.  Watch cutscene as you and Madame Sisulu fight each other… and you win!  Look at the treasure if you like.  Pick up TEMPLE KEY next to Madame Sisulu.  Use the Speaking Tube next to the throne, to talk to Wothar down in the pit.  Tell him to unlock the plane.  When he asks which one, tell him, you’ll get back to him.  You don’t know the name of the plane, so you need to find out.  Walk right to leave the Throne Room. 

 

Enter aircraft on the right again to get the ID Number - 426 68. 

 

Walk left again to the Treasure Chest. 

 

Open the treasure chest and look at the Manifest.  This Manifest tells you that Air craft ID 426 68 is known as The Flying Dagger.  Walk right again, to where all the air crafts are stored. 

 

Enter up through door to the Throne Room. 

 

Use Speaking Tube to talk to Wothar down in the pit.  Tell him you need an aircraft unlocked.  When he asks which one, tell him The Flying Dagger.  Leave the Throne Room. 

 

Watch cutscene, as you board The Flying Dagger and escape from the pirate hanger. 

 

 

 

 

SWAMP

 

Well… that escape plan didn’t work out so well.  You crash-land in a swamp.  Look at bookshelf behind you.  Look out the window.  You’re in a shipwreck, up in the trees.  Just as you are trying to make sense of where you are… someone comes in to check up on you.  It’s… it’s none other than… Captain Kaonandodo himself!  He’s alive!

 

After the cutscene, you find yourself outside on the island, ready to explore.  It really is a beautiful island.  Look at photographs in the bookcase, and click on both photos.  Take the SEASHELL, then exit the close-up. 

 

Look at grill on the right to get a TOFU RAT.  Climb back up into the shipwreck. 

 

Look at the Log Book in the foreground.  Flick through all the pages, until you find the mosquito repellent RECIPE.  Exit the close-up.  Pull red tassle on the left, to open the projector screen.  Turn on projector on the right, and place mosquito repellent RECIPE inside the projector.  This transmit’s a picture of a coconut onto the canvas projector screen.  Climb back down to the island. 

 

Ring the bell next to Webster the monkey, and tell him to fetch you a mango.  He goes up to the projector room and sees the picture of the coconut projected onto the projector screen, then finds one for you.  Take COCONUT from the fruit box.  But how are you going to crack it open?  While Webster is busy, take some CRACKERS from the cupboard he was sitting on.  Search the cupboard to find some CANDY.  Now click on the boat, and sail to the Waterfall. 

 

 

 

 

WATERFALL

 

Some crabs crawl up onto the rocks next to you.  When you approach the crabs, they crawl away again.  Give COCONUT to the crabs, and they successfully crack it open.  Approach the crabs again and pick up the COCONUT.  Talk to Koanandodo, and then sail to the Temple. 

 

 

 

 

TEMPLE

 

Look around the area, and take in the wild beauty.  Pick up FLOWERS on the right, and you realise they are EUCALYPTUS flowers.  Just what you need for the mosquito repellent recipe.  Talk to Koanandodo, and then sail to the Swamp. 

 

 

 

 

SWAMP

 

Look at the fog - it’s so dark and gloomy.  Walk left slightly, only to be startled by the Swamp Cobra, who won’t let you past.  Give TOFU RAT to the Swamp Cobra to make him leave.  Now take snake SCALE that was left behind, then walk left to see your crashed plane. 

 

Look at your plane, and look at the engine.  The mosquitoes won’t let you get very close to the plane.  In your Inventory, combine COCONUT with the EUCOLYPTUS flower, then combine COCUNUT with the CANDY.  Your mosquito repellent is complete.  You automatically apply it.  Enter your plane to retrieve the GRAPPLING GUN.  Return right to Captain Kaonandodo. 

 

Talk to Kaonandodo, and sail back to the Temple. 

 

 

 

 

TEMPLE

 

Give CRACKERS to the birds on the right, and pick up the FEATHER that was left behind.  Use TEMPLE KEY on the gate, then climb up the stairs. 

 

You’ve reached the top of the Temple Of Elders.  Unfortunately, the bridge has collapsed, so you can’t reach the actual Temple.  But that’s not really a problem.  Shoot GRAPPLING GUN at arc on far side of the bridge to swing across.  Now simply walk up, and enter the Temple. 

 

Inside the Temple, you realise you must give an offering to each of the god statues.  Make the offerings as so:

 

        Give SEASHELL to Marushaka.

        Give FEATHER to Awaquan.

        Give snake SCALE to Nyakazho.

        Give NECKLACE to Oganon.

 

The ancient gods are pleased with your offerings.  Take HORN that appears from the pedestal.  Watch the cutscene and you and Captain Kaonandodo fly to the Underland to try and stop the drilling. 

 

 

 

 

ARMANDO POWER COMPANY

 

You’re playing as Bwana again.  You and Gabi successfully break into the Power Company.  Look at poster on the wall.  Search desk to find a VOICE RECORDER.  Use VOICE RECORDER on the computer terminal to record the sounds of the electronic door opening.  If door on the right is still closed, use the terminal to open the door .  Now enter through door on the right, to the Main Frame. 

 

After a short cutscene, you have to find your way down to the thermo core, while Gabi prepares a broadcast that will expose the Armando Power Company for the evil tyrants they really are.  Open junction box on the right to see some exposed wires that control the lift.  Cut wires with your CLEAVER.  Use CLEAVER with your voice RECORDER to remove the MICROPHONE.  Connect MICROPHONE to the junction box.  Now use voice RECORDER with the junction box to open door on the right.  Gabi starts her broadcast transmission, then you and her head down into the thermo core. 

 

Watch the cutscene. 

 

Now Gabi gives you a rucksack with BOMBS.  Place a BOMB on each of the 4 generators.  You’re ready to set the BOMBS to explode.  Watch cutscene as you and Gabi are cornered by guards. 

 

In your Inventory, combine SEVERED BUNNY head with the GAS CAN to create a FIRE BOMB.  Place FIRE BOMB in front of door on the right, then light it with your LIGHTER

 

Watch a long and emotional cutscene.  Just as it seems like all hope is lost, the Sisulu pirates have a change of heart.  They come through for you, helping to turn the tide. 

 

Unfortunately Gabi is seriously hurt, and Waasi is devastated.  Move rubble on the right, then open the power box.  It’s just like the one back home in Kingsport Bay.  Click open the 4 brackets, then open the hatch and flip the switch.  See the connectors on the left glow with electricity.  Flip the switch again to turn the power off.  Walk left, to the Stage. 

 

At the stage, take Waasi’s GUITAR.   Take STARTER CABLES on the left.  Go right, back to Waasi, Gabi, and Kito. 

 

Use STARTER CABLES with the Connectors in the ground.  Pick up coil of STARTER CABLES and place them on Gabi.  Now flip the switch in the Power Box to shock Gabi back to life.  She tries to set off the bombs, but the DETONATOR is broken.  Take DETONATOR from Gabi.  Look at the DETONATOR and remove the smashed cassette.  In your Inventory, combine DETONATOR with the GUITAR, then give GUITARDONATOR to Waasi. 

 

Now sit back and enjoy the ending.  The city is saved, and Bwana and Kito are reunited with their beloved Captain Kaonandodo. 

 

Congratulations.  You have finished the game.
