PRESENT DAY
You
begin your adventure in the Paris Opera House, in the present day. Watch
the intro to see the chandelier falling.
You
are Inspector Raoul Montand. You are called to the Paris Opera House
after a chandelier has mysteriously fallen from the ceiling, tragically killing
several members of the audience.
Follow
Monsieur Brie down the aisle, talk to him, and work through the conversation.
He shows you the chandelier, and asks you to investigate things. He is
understandably upset, and thinks this is a copycat crime, as the Phantom of the
Opera committed exactly the same crime over 100 years earlier. When
Monsieur Brie leaves, you need to find Charles the Stage Manager. Walk
right to the Orchestra Pit.
Continue
right, through the orchestra door.
You
are now underneath the stage. This area is known as the trap room.
Climb up the Prompter's Stand (the stairs), and look through the Prompter's
Box. Is that the Phantom walking across the stage? Maybe you should
find a way onto the stage, and follow him. Climb down the stairs again,
and then look at trapdoor in the middle of the ceiling. You need to open
the trapdoor, and climb through it. Look at lever in wall on the right,
and then push the lever. Pull the Prompter's Stand, so it is underneath the
trapdoor. Now climb through the trapdoor, onto the stage.
Walk
left across the stage, and exit Stage Left. Charles the Stage Manager is
here. Talk to Charles and work through the conversation. He tells
in no uncertain terms just how important his job is, and how important HE
is! He also tells you about the history of the Opera House. He also
tells you that some of the ballerinas suspect that the Opera Ghost is
responsible for this tragedy with the chandelier.
Let's
go and talk to the star, Christine Florent, and see what she thinks about all
this. Walk down, so you are back on the stage. Now head ,right, and
exit Stage Right.
Take YELLOW
FRAME from the ground. Now walk right to the
back-stage area.
Go
through door at top of the screen. Climb up the staircase all the way to
the top (up 2 flights of stairs), and then go through door on the left.
Look at plant on the table to learn that this is Christine Florent's
corridor. Enter the open door on the left.
This is Christine Florent’s dressing room. Look at
Christine, talk to her, and work through the conversation, but be nice to
her. She is afraid that the Opera Ghost has come back to seek his
revenge. She gives you a SMALL
NOTE that she received from him. Now leave the room
- re-assure her that she is safe and that you will return.
Walk
right, back to the stair-well, and head down one flight of stairs. Walk
left through the door. This corridor contains dressing rooms for other
members of the cast and crew. Enter through open doorway on the
right.
This
is Julie Giry’s dressing room. Look at Julie, talk to her, and work
through the conversation. Julie tells you that her grandmother (Madame
Giry) wrote a book about the Phantom, and it is kept in the Opera House
library. It might be interesting to see this book. Leave the
room.
Walk
right, back to the stairwell, and then climb down the stairs. Head down,
so you are in the backstage area.
Monsieur Brie said he thought that the chandelier falling was
not an accident. Maybe you should go up to the Fly Loft, and look at
where the chandelier was hanging from. Look at circular staircase, and
then try to climb up the circular staircase. Wait a minute, where did
that sandbag come from? Take the SANDBAG to learn that the rope
attached to it looks cut.
Climb
up circular staircase to the Fly Loft. Brrr, that shadow is creepy!
Is someone watching you? Walk left across the catwalk, and continue left
to the next screen.
Take the BLUE
FRAME from the ground. Walk left again.
Look at the chandelier cable, and take the LARGE NOTE from the
chandelier cable to read it. Oh dear! It seems that the Opera Ghost
is out to get you.
Return
all the way right, to the circular staircase. Climb down the staircase
twice,
Take the RED
FRAME from the ground. Now climb back up the
stair-case to return to the backstage area.
Remember
Julie Giry told you about the Phantom book that her grandmother wrote?
Let's go to the library, and look for it. Walk left to the Stage Left
wing.
Walk
down onto the stage, and then climb down through the trapdoor. Walk down
the Prompter's Stand, and head left to the orchestra pit. Continue left through
the aisle, and enter the Grand Foyer. Walk left a little bit, and go
through the middle door into the Library.
Look at the glass case on the right to see that it is
smashed. Look at the bookcase on the left (next to the door) to find
Madame Giry's book about the Phantom. Now look in that area for a BOOK (not
bookcase), and then take the BOOK to
read it. Head left through the door, into Monsieur Brie's office.
Talk
to Monsieur Brie, and work through the conversation. You can choose any
responses here. When you have finished talking to Monsieur Brie, you hear
Julie Giry screaming. You automatically return to the Dressing Rooms.
Five
minutes later, you arrive back in Christine Florent’s corridor. Enter the
open doorway to see Christine lying dead on the floor. It seems that her
fears were justified - the Phantom finally has his revenge. Julie Giry
tells you that the Phantom ran towards the Fly Loft. If you are quick,
maybe you can catch him. Leave Christine's Dressing Room.
Head
right to the stairwell, go all the way down the stairs to the Ground Floor, and
then walk down to the back-stage area. Climb up the circular staircase,
and walk left. Continue left until you find the Phantom. Watch the
cut-scene as you are thrown out of the Fly Loft.
THE PAST
After
being thrown out of the Fly Loft, you awaken in the past. Use any
responses here. Christine Daae and Richard Brie are here, and they refer
to you as the Vicomte De Chagny. After a short conversation, they leave
you to get your bearings, but want to speak to you when you feel better.
Walk left and exit Stage Left. Walk left again, and take
the CABLE HOOK from
the ground. Walk left, back to the Stage Left wing, and then walk down
onto the stage. Now go right and exit Stage Right.
Take YELLOW
FRAME from the ground. Go right to the backstage
area.
Climb
up circular staircase, and go left.
Take BLUE
FRAME from the ground.
Return
all the way right to the circular staircase. Climb down the staircase
twice.
Take RED
FRAME from the ground. Take LANTERN from the
prop table. Climb down the circular staircase into the basement.
Look at the mannequins on the left to see the Phantom
hiding. Take ROPE from
the box, and then climb up the circular staircase one floor.
Now
let's go and talk to Richard Brie. Walk through door on the left, and
look at Jacques. Talk to Jacques and work through the conversation to get
some information about the Opera Ghost. Jacques will mention a piece of
music that the Phantom is especially fond of - this changes for every game, and
it is important to write it down, since you will need this information
later. Walk left to the Orchestra Pit.
Head
left down the aisle, and continue left to the Grand Foyer.
Talk
to Edgar Degas and work through the conversation. He’s acting very
suspiciously. When Edgar leaves, walk left a little bit, and go through
the left door into Monsieur Richard's office.
Talk to Richard, and work through the conversation to learn more
about Madame Giry and Christine. Richard gives you a NOTICE and a LETTER he received
from The Phantom. When conversation is over, walk down to leave the
office and return to the Grand Foyer.
Head
right a little bit, and go through the right door (up the stairs). Talk
to Madame Giry and work through the conversation. She senses that you are
not from this time, and tells you that if you give her 3 items from your own
time, then she will unlock Box 5 for you. You should already have items
from your own time - the coloured frames. Talk to Madame Giry again, and tell
her 'Yes', you have the objects. She will now unlock Box 5 for you.
Enter Box 5 (on the left).
Take the CRUMPLED
NOTE that is in front of you. Look at the left
column to find a hidden panel (door). This must be how the Phantom gets
in. Try to enter the panel to discover that it is locked. Look at
keyhole to realise that you need a skeleton key. Now leave Box 5.
Let's
go and talk to Christine now. Go left to the Grand Foyer, and then right
to the aisle. Continue right through the aisle to the orchestra pit, and
then go right through the door into the trap room.
Walk
right through the door, and then climb up the circular staircase one
floor. You hear a voice singing in the distance. Go through door at
top of screen, and then climb all the way upstairs to the top floor. Walk
through door on left, to Christine’s corridor.
Look
at the plant, then enter open doorway on the left.
Talk
to Christine and work through the conversation. She tells you about her
Angel of Music, and then asks you to leave. Do as she asks, and leave the
room.
Listen
outside the door. You hear Christine talking to another man. Christine
has locked the door, so you cannot get back in. Take the fire axe from
the wall, and break down the door.
Inside
Christine's dressing room, you are shocked to find that she is missing.
Later
that evening, you are back in Monsieur Richard's office. Select any
response for Monsieur Richard. Christine now returns unexpectedly, and
tells you that she has left a ticket for you at the Box Office. Pick any
response for Monsieur Richard, and then leave his office.
Walk left through the archway. Talk to the ticket seller
in the left window and ask him 'Do
you have a ticket for Raoul de Chagny?'. He will give you
an ENVELOPE.
Open the ENVELOPE to
find a TICKET,
and a PIECE OF PAPER.
Look at the TICKET to
see that you will be in Box 9. Look at the PIECE OF PAPER to
discover that Christine is in danger and she wants you to meet her after the
performance.
Let's go and watch her performance. Walk right through the
archway. Walk right a little bit until you see the stairs (the right
door), and then climb up the stairs. Talk to Madame Giry, and tell
her 'Yes',
you have a ticket. She unlocks Box 9 for you.
Enter
Box 9, and then take a seat. Christine will start her performance… then
the Phantom kidnaps her.
An
hour later, you are talking with Monsieur Richard. Work through the
conversation. He tells you to see what you can find out backstage.
Walk left to the Grand Foyer, and then right through the
archway. Head right down the aisle, through the orchestra pit, and then
right into the trap room. Oh no! Jacques is dead. Look at
Jacques to discover that his neck was broken, and then take the KEY that is lying
next to him.
Walk all the way left, and return to the Grand Foyer. Go
through the right door (up the stairs), and enter Box 5 (on the left).
Look at hidden panel (door) in the left column. Now put KEY in keyhole in
the door. The door is now unlocked. Walk left through panel to find
yourself in a narrow passageway.
Exit the Lower Level, and look at the lake. Turn on
your LANTERN,
and then SAVE YOUR
GAME HERE. There is a horrendous maze through the stone
archway, and it is very easy to get lost. Here’s how to get through the
maze:

PUZZLE ROOM 1
You are now in a puzzle room. Look at the
Unlucky Adventurer, and take the SWORD that
is lying on the ground next to him. The door ahead of you is
locked. Look at the switch panel in wall next to the door.
Notice that there is 26 skull switches. They represent 26
letters of the alphabet. We know that the Phantom created this labyrinth,
and all the traps. We also know that the Phantom's real name is
Erik. So push the switches to spell out 'Erik'.
Push
the buttons as so:

If
you have done this correctly, then the door will open. Walk up through
the door.
Look at the giant cobweb, and then use SWORD to attack the
cobweb. Walk up, through the archway to another maze. Again, SAVE YOUR GAME HERE as
it is very easy to get lost. Here’s how to get through the second
maze:
THE MAZE - 2
You
are in the corridor with a giant cobweb. Go up one room.
There
is exposed brick in the wall. Go left 3 rooms.
There
is a gate on the left. Go up one room.
There
is a skull in the corner. Go right one room.
You
have reached a lake. Go through the lower right door
You
have now reached Puzzle Room 2.
PUZZLE ROOM 2
You
are in another puzzle room. There are large tiles on the wall. You
have to push these tiles to make a picture of the Phantom's mask. Be
quick though, as the floor is getting hotter and hotter.
When you have the picture correctly displayed, a trapdoor in the
ceiling will open. That is your escape route. Attach your CABLE HOOK to
the ROPE in
your Inventory to make a ROPE
WITH HOOK. Now use this ROPE WITH HOOK to
grapple the trapdoor in the ceiling. Finally, climb up the ROPE to escape this
room.
PHANTOM’S LAIR
You arrive at the Phantom's lair, and you hear someone call
out. Respond with 'Christine?
Is that you?'. Now ask her 'The door is locked! Where is the key?'
All she can tell you is that the lock is activated musically somehow.
Look
at the organ, and then Look at the music score. Sit on organ bench, and
play the piece of music that Jacques mentioned earlier (you DID take a note of
it, didn‘t you?). This will open the door.
Walk through door on right to find Christine trapped in a
see-through sarcophagus. Look at skull face in front of the sarcophagus
to find a keyhole. Use your SKELETON
KEY to unlock the skull face. Now look at pile of
skulls on the bottom left, and push 3rd skull from the right. This opens
up the sarcophagus, and releases Christine.
Talk to Christine and work through the conversation. She
will give you her WEDDING
RING that the Phantom gave her. She tells you that
the Phantom may return shortly.
Head left, and return to the organ room. The Phantom
appears, and threatens you. Use any response to his threats, and then use
your SWORD to
attack him. The Phantom disappears, so this is your chance to
escape.
Before you escape, look at organ again, and take the MUSIC SCORE. Now
walk left through the door. Take OAR that is lying against the wall,
and then walk left through the door.
Climb
into the boat to automatically sail away, and escape from the Phantom.
Watch the cut-scene.
You
are now back at the beginning of the labyrinth. Go through door on the
left, and then exit to the Middle Level. You are back in Box 5.
Watch out, the Phantom is here, and he kidnaps Christine again.
A hero's work is never done! Go through hidden panel
(door) on the left, and then exit to Upper Level. You find yourself up in
the Fly Loft. Walk right, and then climb down the chandelier cable.
You and the Phantom struggle. When he is on top of you, push his cane to
get free. When you are on top of him, take his MASK to unmask
him. The chandelier cable breaks, and you and the Phantom both
fall.
THE PRESENT - EPILOGUE
You
regain conciseness back in the present day. Christine Florent and
Monsieur Brie are with you. Talk to them and work through the
conversation. Wait a minute. Christine Florent is here - but didn't
the Phantom kill her? It seems you’ve altered the present by changing
things in the past.
When
Christine leaves the room, continue talking to Monsieur Brie about everything.
Now watch the cut-scene as you look at Madame Giry's book again. The
ending has changed. You have managed to change the past to save Christine
Daae, as well as Christine Florent.
Notice
the Phantom's shadow on the wall.
The End!
